10-4. Last thing is the wash down with solvent. Momma always said... "Son, never let anyone tell you you're totally worthless...Heck, you can always be used as a bad example!!!

I got most everything disassembled ..

Now how far should I go with the grinding ? I basically have old some kind of galv paint on a lot of it .
DSC01103_zps72fe4ac7.jpg

Then under some of that there is some very light rust .
DSC01104_zps221a196e.jpg

And finally area's that some welding was done there is new primer of some sort ..

Should I go down past all existing primer/galv paint ?

Very funny! When i was a kid, my friend's dad used to smack us in the head and then say, "There. Now you can go do something bad!"

Nice trailer SP! Can' wait to see the whole package completed!

Well...It's a trailer. Unless You're planning on entering it in some Antique Boat Shows, (you prolly should, but then what would you do with all those Trophies:eek:) I'd sand down anything I could, and then SE primer it followed some high build primer to fill some of the bad spots and proceed with the Colorization of the Boat Transportation Device.:D

Agreed on all counts, but particularly about the boat shows & trophies :D

Might have to make a: This is how they should have made the '64 MFG category :first:

If that was my trailer, I would not try to sand, grind off all of the galvanize.. It would be a very long hard task to grind off all the zinc..
I would treat it like any other steel as far as prep... Clean off all the old paint or primer, any lose rust, dirt or grease..
Leaving the good galvanize on is just that much more protection agaisnt rust..
Then do the correct treatment of the galv and prime and paint as WOG has said ^^^...

SP, I agree with get the loose stuff off then prep and paint as normal. Can't see the trailer from the other side of the lake on your boat anyways  That's pretty much the attitude we've taken on ours of late and I think the letting loose has been good and it's turned out pretty darn good as well. I think you'll surprise yourself with how good your's will turnout as well.

Work on the boat/trailer will be kinda slow the next few weeks . Were having to get ready for our daughters wedding coming up in March . They will be moving back in with us while my daughter will be going to school . So first step was to get things moved . We used the donor boat trailer to move move their shed .

45 mph no problem . :)

Got home and unloaded and had enough time before diner to start the SE primer .

The can said 2 coats . Do you think 1 coat will be good enough ?
Gotta go back to 10 hr days next week . Gunna try and do a coat every evening if I feel up to it .

Have a great start of the week everyone !

Congrats on the wedding SP..
That was a cool move with the shed.. Did you get a few white knuckles on the trip..:scared:

Can't tell from the pic, but if the first coat covered well then you may get buy with one.. If it was mine I would follow the directions and use 2 coats... But that's just me..
Have a great week..

Nice, a high speed portable storage unit...

Congrats to both Families on the upcoming nuptials...

On the primer, I lean towards overkill myself, like Decker, but if it looks like good enough coverage, then go for it...

Have an awesome week and may your 10 hour days seem like 6 hours, but the money seem like 20 hour days...:)

Way to go there SP! You are living what i preach.

I say it's a damn trailer and if you have have to repaint it 3 years after you finish the boat then darn it, you'll have some time then! The trailer is the place I am willing to cut corners on this project only because I'll come back to it if I have to.

Sad to hear you're goin to 10's but hopin the money tree gets lots of fertilizer out of it.
