Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Bummer, good to have tested the H/T before trimming the bottoms to the taper of the hull too :)
Yep I was hearing something in my head . Better put the ht on ! guess I should have listened !
If it'll make you feel better, I had a similar issue.
It does make me feel a little bit better but I hate to gain on anyone else,s misfortune . Maybe you can install armrest on just one side .
Bummer...just thinking...(which is dangerous) ... Since you are going to get into the ovals a bit, maybe just round off the opening to a half circle ending at deck height...
This was actually my first thought and I have considered it but I want the green paint to be continuous around the opening and to have a lip so stuff can,t just roll or vibrate out ..
OK you asked for it...verbal abuse, verbal abuse...there, feel better?
Carry on...:D
Yes thank you !

Sorry it worked out this way.[/QUOTE]
No biggy what,s a little more glassin and sanding and fairing among friends ! Piece a cake ..:)

Your abilities never cease to amaze me. Your boat restoration is and will be one of the iBoats classics. You have inspired more people than you probably realize or know. Thanks for taking the time to document and share your efforts!!!!!!!

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Thanks for all the kind words guys it means a lot ! I guess were all in these projects together thick or thin ,rain or shine !:)
Got home late from work but didn,t want to not do something boat related on my 1 yr anniversary so I dug this mess out of the shed .
DSC00903.jpg

Anyone need a couple cable steering pulley,s ! I need to find 2 more rub rail arrow heads. I think the boat salvage place down in St Aug may have some . I started trying to shine up the H/T fastening clamps they were in pretty rough shape ..
DSC00904.jpg

Also been thinking about the front fastening of the H/T . It had these clamps that hooked under the windshield trim piece with a stud and wingnuts going though the top to pull it tight.
DSC00902.jpg

Not sure if I like the set up . I,m sure thats why the rivets holding the trim on came loose . Any idea,s on the fastening ? Maybe some of those little turn knobs that fit through a slot and turn . Not sure what there called .

I have to ask...noticed the other day you saying H/T ... for some reason I am lost to that term...what is it short for?

and you know...any progress is progress :)

Edit: I figured it out!

Hard Top...shees..

For the top, how bout using a couple of scrap strips of CSM and 1708, some wax paper and some 1/8" hardboard wax so it won't stick. Make some slots like this...

and then glass em to the top. You could slide the bracket into the slot and secure it with a screw. Or you could glass a Nut to the top and use a thumb screw to fasten it. Just a thought!!!

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

That might work But just thinking the stud and wingnut is not to bad . How bout installing a machine screw with a rubber washer on the top going down thru the H/T with a lockwasher and nut holding it secure from underneath. Then install a allum clip that looks just like your drawing to the inside of the windshield trim channel. Through bolt it through the trim and windshield . That is if I can drill the plastic without it cracking .. Hook the mounting clip under that and wingnut it to the machine screw going through the H/T . That way I wont have to hook it under the windshield trim ..
Does that make any sense ?

Yep makes sense. YOu can drill the plastic but...use a DULL bit. YOu can dull it by drilling into concrete with a metal bit. Tape it on both sides and drill on slow speed.

Re: MFG rebuild getting started

Sure, but white face & silver trim ring may 'fit' the teal dash better

Aqua-Marine? What color are we calling this again?

Ummm maybe SP Green . Aqua-Marine will work too ..:)
I think my old speedo maybe too far gone for repair . I really don,t want a bunch of stuff on the dash but a nice speedo would be good ..

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Yeh I just might box the old one up and send it to one of those restoration places . I just don,t have the skill and know how to do a good job on it ..

Well today I cut 1-1/2 " off the seat bases and also scribed the front ones to the hull to line up properly .

DSC00908.jpg

If I make them any lower they would just be uncomfortable without the top on . My noggin just does clear the top with a slight scrunch of my neck . But its spot on for the Admiral !
DSC00911.jpg

I also made these little clips for the front H/T mounting .
DSC00912.jpg

It gets dark way to early these days ! It,s hard to get much done on these one day weekends ..
10 hr days for the next 3 days then hopefully ," fingers crossed " just maybe a 4 day weekend for Thanksgiving !:)
