Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

It would be nice to get a whole weekend off sometime . It seems to be taking forever to get these bases done . I did some extra cutting and fitting on them so they would sit good and flat on the deck . The factory deck has a crown in the middle so water will drain to the sides and back to the rear . So I cut here and added there to make them sit level .

I got them all cleaned up and the edges rounded then I glassed the bottom edges with some torn csm . Hopefully tomorrow I can lay a layer of glass on the top .
I also picked up a couple of these trim boards that I will use for the bottom of gunwale ski-shelf . It will have to be cut to conform to the sides of the hull and I guess I will spread a layer of 5200 on the cut edge to seal it up .

Ok now I have a ?
When I install my lower rub rail on the side of the hull do I need to use some type of a gasket to keep it from leaking water through the mounting holes ? Or just caulk the holes .
Thanks SP ..

The spear like rubrail that is sort of 1/2 way between the waterline & the hull/cap joint rubrail?

How/what does the rubrail screw too? Wood backing or a chunk of glass? A leftover blue biscuit would be good....

But yeah, filling the screw hole would be a great idea....

Hmm

what kind of a gasket were you thinking....

good work takes time...but I understand not having a full weekend...I'd say 5200 the screw holes to keep water out...I've discovered that is some tough stuff..much better than silicone, in fact they should outlaw silicone...have a great week SP!

Yea thats the one . It through bolts through the hull through a thin piece of wood with an angle bracket that holds the shelf up on the inside of the gunwales . Then the vertical painted allum trim mounts to horizontal shelf bottom .
I was thinking some of that butyle tape that they use to seal duct work with or some type dbl sticky gasket ..

Bituthene?

Sticky doesn't even come close to how well that stuff sticks to clean surfaces, but I thought that might be what you were thinking

Yeah I'd say one more layer to give you a good sanding base.

Nice vids SP. Liked the way you spread the PB on the seat base. Great trick. All the glass work is looking good.

Thanks guys !

Got an early Christmas present !
The speedometer the Admiral scored on fleebay cam in ! I had almost forgot about it while it was still on the clock . Signed in with 2 mins left on it so my wife did her magic . She,s like an ebay machine !

I,m pretty stoked because it matches the original almost perfectly ! I,ll bet they were made in the same factory. It is missing the transom foot though . Hopefully I can find one that will work . These are pretty much standard / universal brackets aren't they ?

Nice speedometer. Wow, your some lucky dude. That is a nice piece. Are you talking about the pitot tube that screws onto the transom? You can buy those anywhere.
