Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Hmmmm ,then I guess I prolly could have gone without . I was thinking with leaning back and the boat jumping around It was a good idea. Probably could have used just a big flat washer under there instead . Oh well there in there now ...

SP you made a good decision beefing them up! I'm sure I could take the 1/2" ply past its breaking point! Hit one decent wave and it would be all she wrote. Although I am 350lbs+ ringing wet with rocks in my pockets, but I'm just sayin better overbuilt than underbuilt.

This ^^^ is a true Statement. I have a tendency to ALWAYS overbuild things.

SBB, Wood ,
Yep I think we are all guilty of over building sometimes . I do that at work quite often . Sometimes my guys will ask why I want something done a certain way and I just tell them because that's how I want it done ! The boss put me in charge to give the owner a quality building and make us some money .
Speaking of work I did not get out of there till 6:30 so no boat work today . But my wonderful Mrs SP stopped and picked up my resin for me on her way home ..She,s the best !;)

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Work is really cutting into my boat stuff ! Oh well if I didn,t work there would be no boat stuff ! :
Welp my windshield mounting stuff came in ..
DSC00871.jpg

Can,t wait to get that mounted ! Should the mounting gasket be caulked in or just lay on the dash ?
Also had enough time this afternoon to put some very hairy, lumpy/ugly fillets inside the bases ..
DSC00872.jpg

Speaking of hairy .. Being in a hurry I forgot to put my respirator on when I started mixing and applying the pb so I stopped to put it on and somehow I got a glob of resin in my hair . Not wanting to stop I kept working . Luckily I was able to get it out with a little acetone and a rag before it set up .. Good thing ,I sure can,t afford ta loose much more up there !
Please tell me I,m not the only one that has done this !

I would vote nothing needed under the gasket...fillets look good from this angle....you're all alone far as I know with the resined hair :)

Does Bondo and Paint in the hair count...???...and you find out about it while combing it...Owwww!

Ever have a really itchy armpit when your hands are full of resin goop...? No really, just asking...

I would first check with the manufacturer and see if they recommend any sealer.
I would see how well the gasket fits when in place. If its tight against the hull there maybe no need for a sealer.

Fillets looks good.

The only ones I know of they may have resin in thier hair is the punk rockers when they spike thier hair.

S.P. - When they talk about recipes for "hairy peanut butter" that is just a description...

I think there is a new thread that popped on PB recipes so maybe we can link your thread to that... Fillets looks good to me, but I wouldn't worry about cosmetics under those bases for sure... Have I mentioned that I freakin love this boat...

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Not much done after work today . Just cut up some csm for the bases . Gunna try and get off a little early tomorrow and glass it in .
DSC00876.jpg

Trying to get geared up to install the windshield . It,s not in to bad shape but a little hazy and a few scratches . Can,t I use some type of lens restorer or something to bring it back to life ?
DSC00875.jpg

The allum rail at the top has these rivets that are coming loose . I,m guessing just drill and refill with new ones . It seems like it would have to be a real short rivet . I,ve never mounted a windshield before I would hate to mess things up.

Kinda hard to tell what that revit is doing..is it holding the glass to the frame?

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

It is some type plastic or poly and not glass . Still would think it would crack if not careful..

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

You could probably polish it up using some of the stuff from these guys... plastic polish ...
Used it before on really hazed up plexiglas and polycarbonate...works really well

As far as removing and replacing those rivets... you can use a dremel with a sanding wheel or a carbide burr to carefully grind away the heads and the just push them out...you could also use a drill with a bit to remove the head...once you know the correct size you need, you can check out this place for the rivets... rivet

When re-installing them, make sure the windshield is in a warm environment, as opposed to cold [cold=brittle]...maybe even use a hair dryer to gently warm the area you are going to rivet, to make the plastic as soft and flexible as possible...however, if you get the exact same rivets as were in there, you shouldn't have any issues with cracking

Last night I tried to find the thread/post WOG made this summer about the polish & process of another iboater that he followed for the BF's windshield.. Couldn't find it....
