Wood,
I did take the cuts down to the last ply after trying only about half way unsuccessfully .. Do you mean cut the kerfs perpendicular to the ply grain ? I cut them parallel thinking it would bend easier and add strength to the top when applied perpendicular to the side support end pieces ..

No your kerf direction is fine. I meant the top layer of the plywood should have the grain of the wood running length wise or parallel with the structure. If the grain of the ply was running in the same direction as the kerfs it would have a tendency to crack. Is the plywood only 3 ply?

Lookin' sweet sphelps. So are you going to glass over them, then mount the seats on top so that you end up with 4 individual seats?

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

It,s 4 ply . I would think it wound bend easier cut with the grain on a tighter radius but as you stated would have a tendency to crack If bent to far ..I have found that when we hang drywall on a curved wall it hangs well running horizontally until the radius gets to tight . Then we have to hang it vertical or go with a thinner drywall to make it bend.
Maybe I will cut a scrap the other way and see how well it bends on the same radius ..Just in case I have to do something similar one day.:)

The seat mounts swivel and I will fab the hinges so the seat backs can recline to make a lounge chair like the originals .:)

Carp, like the bar wasn't already high enough after the seat bases, now they convert to loungers

Looking forward to those hinges fab work. <<-- That'll likely need to be a how to thread...

Actually, condensed, the jump seats, curved seats, upholstery, seat bases & hinges would make a GREAT how to thread!

SP, those bases are awesome! Thanks also for showing me how to draw the perfect oval. The video was just what the doctor ordered. I would have never got that with just words.

Yep , but I sure wish he could figure out how to make my money tree bloom more often ..

Thanks everyone for the encouragement and kind words !:)

Well I thought it might be a good idea to beef up the seat mount area .Something a little more substantial than just the 1/2 " ply . So I cut some 3/4 " ply to beef it up on the underside .

Had enough time before dinner to put a coat of resin on and pb in place ..

FYI. 4 ply 1/2" plywood on a span of 16' will carry a load of over 700 lbs. Now if you just wanted the extra thickness for thickness sake then that's another matter.

Hmmmm ,then I guess I prolly could have gone without . I was thinking with leaning back and the boat jumping around It was a good idea. Probably could have used just a big flat washer under there instead . Oh well there in there now ...
