I like singles, but my only Q? is...would you be using the stern as a stepping point as much as the gunwales? In other words, wouldn't you rather have two places on each gunwale for stepping in and out of the boat...?

You know me, always thinking out loud......

I haven't installed mine yet but when I do they will go on the gunwales between the front and back seats. I figure thats where everyone will step down into the boat. Single is best.

They are nice. How come I didn't see them on ebay. I'm looking for some. I think the side gunwhale like GT said and just a single one each side. The other two, well, would look great on my boat. :D:D Nice score though.

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Well I have molded in step pads on the gunwales...
DSC00589.jpg

And my over all plan is to install a small swim platform so that was my transom step pad reasoning. I have 4 new ones so I can always install the other 2 in another strategic location . :) Try and imagine big chunky SP jumping from the back to do some major tubing/wakeboarding , or cannon ball/belly flop and his feet coming out from under before he even gets wet! :D

I can't get past the awesome paint job to look at the steps...but if I had to pick, I'd g single...or double, but some space between them..eitherway they are gonna look nice..and like TC said..if the space was real big, like from Fla to Canada...he could use the other set :)

Have a great weekend...hopefully you get time to do boat werk...

Yep , if,en I choose not to use the other 2 I,m sure a fellow iboater from up north could use em !
Funny after the steps came in the Admiral suggested that I didn,t appreciate how she took the time and won the bid .. I told her that was just nonsense and scrolled back to post #1310 and showed her the praise I gave her ... WHEW !! A little goes a long way my friends !;)

I didn't see that part of your post. Your wife buys you stuff off ebay for your boat? She's a keeper for sure.

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

TC I can,t think of anyone else that would put up with me so I had better keep her !

I had to work all day Saturday and worked on the pool today so I got zero done on the boat ..
But I did do some thinking on the seat bases .. After trying a few different base hgt,s I think I have narrowed it down to around 10 or 11 inches to the bottom of the seats.

The original mfg fun n sun front seat base ran all the way across the beam of the boat with a storage compartment in the middle. I think I am going to build 4 individual bases so I can walk unobstructed through the center ..

The low height of the H/T is the only concern . The extra storage or even a built in beverage cooler would be nice though ...

That's looking really sharp...absolutely love the way the striping lines up...way too cool...

Just a thought...if you build the four seat bases, individually...you could build two of them with insulation, like what CW is doing... http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=526064&p=4015185&viewfull=1#post4015185 ...for either cold storage or convertible live well... and two without insulation for storage...:)

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

I like what CW is doing but his is a bass boat set up . I am trying to keep the original look to it . The orig bases had radius fronts and backs. I would have to make some sort of hinged top that the seat mounts would fasten too. I guess if i feed the hamster and grease up his wheel I might could come up with a plan. Hmmmmm ,I could hinge the two back seats to open forward and use the front seats for storage ...;)

This may sound crazy, but for radius's on the seat bases, it might be possible to use 2", 3" or 4" PVC pipe, cut into quarters...2" for the inner radius and 4" for the outer radius, then use some expanding foam to fill in between, add the ply/foam sandwich straight sections...glass everything over...hey, wait a minute, that gives me some ideas...:rolleyes::facepalm::D

Yep, I forgot all about that...I was thinking [as usual, gets me in trouble...]...that the seat bases were like boxes with rounded corners, now I realize they are shaped sort of like military bunkers...

This blue seat base at the bottom left corner:

Is what you're going for? Well, based on the rear jump seats, I suspect you will do just fine. Build a mold that you can make this base over & glass over it. Pull it off, little finish the interior so there's no bare glass & done...

Might bed a piece of plywood into the lid & the 'legs' & glass over them if you're concerned about it being strong enough for a seat support....

You can do it!

Those seats sure look good sitting in the boat. Looking forward to what you come up with for the bases.
Have a good week.

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Mr Phelps, You can make those bases "IN YOUR SLEEP"!!! Make the sides from 3/4" ply and rabbet the edges. Then kerf some 1/2" ply to bend around the curves and wet it down with boiling water to make it easier to bend. PB the kerfs and glass everything else. I KNOW it will support My BIG Lard behind so I'm sure it will be fine for a much skinnier you. One weekend and they'll all be done. Wish I was closer, cuz just like you I LOVE doing these kinds of projects.

Pool Update???

SP, I love your dedication to the period of your boat. As has been said before me, those seats are going to look kick ***** when you get them mounted. I agree with Wood, you got this one stone cold once that hamster gets warmed up a bit,
