Yup, I agree with the above...looks awsome...did you use double needles for that stitch? They are lined up perfect so guessing you did...

Very good! Its going to be pretty cool when you can say that you built/installed every screw and stitch on your boat....

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Boat stuff has been going slow. But here is a few pics of some test fitting . I have just about decided to put piping just around the edges and and dbl stitch the flat parts ..

I tried putting the piping at the color change location but it did not turn out to well so I took it out and tried to do a seam like the front flat part . I know it looks like fido,s butt but next time I will sew the sides and the top panel together first and then sew the front ad back panels on . Have no doubt it will turn out better !!
BTW did you guys have trouble getting the forum to come up the last few days ?

Thanks Troop ,Pmc !
Just glad I had the old vinyl to practice with. I want to make sure I have all the templates right and the kinks worked out before I start with the real vinyl ..

Nice stitch work!

If you're planning on using the flat seam dbl stitch on the front part of the seat back, you may want to use the same style seam along the top edge, else it may stand out as different, even if you use the main body vinyl color instead of the inset color.

Decker,
The only sewing I have done is hand stitching my torn up wet suits years ago .

Jbc ,
Well the plan although not set in stone is to use white piping all along the edges. The front , back , and top panels will have the white stripe in the middle with the flat felled seams. Velcro flap at the bottom and my thought was to install some of those round brass grommets on the flap to let air in and out.. The white piping on the edges will kind of match the white vinyl trim that will finish off the raw edges of the gunnels. At least I think it will match... :p

I figured you'd carry the color & seam style across all 3 'panels', just thought I'd ask. You might check with JDA, but for standardization & 'even' seams, you might make larger panels w/ the white insert & trim them down into front, top & back. 1 whole seat set sewn all at once. May help make the panels all line up & even if they started out as a single larger panel.

Yep that is the basic plan but the curved back is making it kinda tricky along the top edge . You can,t just cut a straight rectangular piece for the sides the top has a slight curve so it runs up straight and then hooks around a bit..

Wood I do like the piping but the machine really struggles at the intersections . Already broke a couple of needles ..

Yeah, I know, my old Kenmore did NOT like 4 layers and when it got to 6 it was a bee-atch. My Morse Machine is a Heavy Duty Industrial and it will sew through 8 layers like hot butter. Really made a big difference. You do what you have to do.

I don't know anything about either, WOG might..... But if it's not more then 20-30min away, if they run, $20 isn't much.... For 2 or apiece?

If you do a google search you might get lucky & find very similar pix & info online.... Amps & metal gears indicate heavier duty machines....

Similar Morse machine, @evil-bay, but not much more info then the CL ad

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

The Morse in the pix is similar to the pink Morse Craig bought, has he used it? I don't think so.... WOG did think it was up to the task. W/ the dial & a few very similar features, that 1 of the 2 might do upholstery.

Isn't WOG's machine a Morse?

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

That IS my Morse. I'd be on that like a June Bug on a Light bulb!!!!! It WILL sew thru your Piping layers with NO issues. Clean it well and Watch it work. You will be amazed at the difference!!!! If you don't like it, I'll buy it from ya and pay for the shipping to Okie Land!!!!:D
