Man, if Jas saw what an awesome job you have done of bottom feeding...using smurf biscuits and some old foam to set up those cable raceways...he might just contemplate becoming a glasser...
Uuuuhhhh, hmmmm, naaaa!, never mind...wishful thinkin on my part...
I'm going to try and flip her back right side up tomorrow . Should I do anything to the bottom before the flip? I was thinking maybe some liquid wax or something I think I will wait to do any buffing and let the paint cure a little longer..
Thanks Wood,Jon, Just some stuff laying around I threw together. I may take the fulcrum/ saw hoarse and modify for a motor stand.
GT , I wonder if I can turn the fulcrum into one of those medieval catapults !
Trooper, It was the can spray foam and I cut it close with a drywall saw then finished it up with the angle grinder. Don't know how long it will last hopefully sealing it with the sto gold coat will help it last longer..
Ok I've been pondering / head scratching on where to continue . I think finish the transom area first . Figure out how i'm going to do the new splash but before I start that I want to beef up the glass on the inside corners with some 1708. Should I lay a layer of csm down first or is it ok with just the bi-axle with the csm woven in?
Also been thinking on a little more durable paint for the floor deck. Maybe the white valspar on the sides and then roll white gellcoat on the deck. What do you guys think?
And last , I probably should have done this before the hull was painted but I drilled the bow eye hole larger to fill with pb and will re drill smaller for the eye. Can I use my smaller touch up hvlp gun to fix the paint. What would that procedure be?
OK, on the 1708/ CSM question...is there already a tabbing layer of CSM?...if not, I would, then follow up with a slightly larger tabbing of 1708...couldn't hurt and you are only talking about 300-500ml of extra resin...JMHO...
The oversized PB bow eye hole...on the touch up part, you might have to sand it back aways, fair it and since it is fairly new paint just touch it up with the touch-up spray gun and then do a blend into the already painted area...
I can say that you definitely need to add a backing plate to the inside of the hull larger than the PB hole...I wouldn't trust PB to hold all that stress...
Layer of CSM required before the 1708. Rolled Gelcoat on the deck gives it a nice texture. My next one will be Gelcoated. GT is spot on on the Eye. For sure I'd fabricate a Douglas Fir backup resined and glassed. Outside just sand, fill, fair, acetone, prime and paint.
I think a metal plate like GT's stearn eye's should work good or the big square galvanized washers. Remember I replaced the wood at the bow and the eye will also attach to the lift ring.
