Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Just dropping in to see what's up.
Love the dog pic. Very funny.
Know what you mean about missing the good ole times in the motor home.
I was going to sell my old travel trailer and when the wife and I started to clean it out we just couldn't bring ourselfs to sell it.
Keep up the good work.

Just warning you I haven't heard too much good about those force motors. I think for 500 bucks its worth it but they have been known to not be the best perfomers

Jbc,
I won't hold you to splash date If you don't hold me to one either !;)

GT,
I was thinking maybe red paint for the cap but I think thats one of those colors that tend to fade. I may be wrong.

Wood,
Thanks for the link. I emailed them about samples.

Decker,
I did a lot of work on the old Concord. Cleaned it up and the whole time I was thinking, this thing is still prettynice , why am I selling it!
Oh well maybe I git another one some day.

Needs to be an Airstream Teardrop.... The redone MFG, w/ red or blue cap, would look fab sitting next to a big shiny teardrop trailer...

Agreed no 's' dates.....

To late I already picked it up. It fires right up and seems to run well. We'll see how it acts on the water and go from there. I just missed out on about three Evinrudes on C/L .

I'm sure it will be a good motor for you. I know a guy that has one on his bay boat and it always runs, he just says it doesn't have the power that other motors have. its reliable, just not a speed demon

Yep, 'specially here in the sunshine state...although, with some of the new paint formulations containing UV inhibitors, etc...most colors tend to hold up fairly well...

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Gunna try and spray the primer on the hull this weekend . It's going to be in the 80's and probably warmer in the garage. Does this sound right? 2 cups primer 1 cup spirits 1/4 cup acetone? Went back on b/f # 10 but still confused on the primer.
My arms are falling off I.m ready to see it gray! :)

Wait ,found it back on my own pg 13.
2 cups primer and 1/3 cup acetone. I think the other is for the finish paint.

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Well I got it primed. I think it turned out ok. I think I should have used the 1.8 tip instead of the 1.4. I just couldn't get the paint volume right.

I also made a video the one of me spraying would not down load to my photo bucket for some reason but here are 2 that did.

I'll get my son to help figure out the other vid tomorrow I'm just worn out!

Looks real nice sp!

I see you used
2 cups primer and 1/3 cup acetone. What primer did you use? Did you like the way the acetone mixed with it? I didn't care how it did with the Valspar I used on the trailer. Looked like it was breaking the paint down, but I have never used it before so maybe it should lok the way it did?

I,m thinking sand and paint and glass new wood on inside. The finish has like a squared texture on it .

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

For SURE you need to do one of two things. Either Thin with 2/3 to 3/4 cup of a 50/50 mix of acetone a mineral spirits or use a bigger tip. You are not getting near enough volume at the tip. What Pressure do you have at the gun. It sounds a bit High. Should be about 35 to 40 PSI. Primer is typically shot with 1.8 mm tip. If you thin you'll still be ok with 2 coats but I'd prolly shoot 3. With the primer you can shoot in about and hour or two after you finish the first coat.

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Thanks Wood! Sorry ya didn't splash the BF today you probably made the right choice with the ruff water!
I had the presure at the compressor at 90 and at the gun it was at around 33. The manual said do not exceed 35 at the gun.
On the second coat I switched to the 1.8 tip and went alittle over 1/3 cup acetone . It definitely layed down more primer this time.
You think I should step up the thinner a little on the last coat? 2/3 to 3/4 at 50/50 mix?
