Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

As promised here is my version of the POSEIDON ADVENTURE!!
I do apologize for all the bad acting and especially the camera person ( my daughter tiffany) screaming at the dog right in the middle of the flip! She scared the carp out of me !!

Nice video of the flip. It looked stressful, but it's done!

And the boat, the camera crew, the dog & the flippers escaped injury.... Success!:D

Well done.

Should I grind then glass this? The rest I think just filler will do.

It looks like the bow has been beached repeatedly, looks worn away.

To rebuild the bull nose profile, you'll probably need to fill & profile it w/ PB filler then glass over it.

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

I decided to take a break from wirebrushing the trailer.

Firgured i go see a movie, action flick titled "Poseidon Adventure".

Will the boat make it over the 'rocks'?

Will the dog make it safely from under the boat?

Will the captain get crushed in the pinch point?

I was just as nervous watching as you were being right in the midst of that flip.

Good job sp and crew!

Make a cardboard cutout of the profile of the keel to use as a guide pattern. Mix up some Hairy PB by pulling the strands off some CSM and build the keel up with it just shy of the profile. Then Lay 2-layers of csm over the Hairy PB. Then RO sand it to shape. Thats. How I did mine and it came out looking like factory.

Thanks everyone !

Wood will it be ok to use the 1/4 " chopped fibers for the pb or will the shredded csm work better for build up?

Make it hairy it'll be stronger. You can put the fibers in too.

SP, that was awesome man. I take it back you had the crew all set to document the whole stress filled event. You made it look easy. Love the creative way you did this man.

Thanks craig !

Gotta quick resin ?
Lay up resin has no wax. But when good and dry it will sand. Is it important to add wax on final coat before fairing ?? Or does it make a difference:confused:
Thanks guys!!

Wax ON, Wax Off, really makes no diff. It does give it a tad bit more Water Resistance. Personally, I use it but ... well you know the rest.

If it adds water resistance than its probably a good idea. I'll pick some up!

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

I got these ripple's in the side of the hull it may be hard to see in the pic. When the finish paint goes on it's gunna jump out. It would take a lot of filler to fix. Maybe the primer would help some or do you think I'm being to picky?

Any thought's ?

Just me, but are the fish going to say anything?

Decisions like these are tough if you ask me.

I'm sure you will come to the right conclusion for you.

I read somewhere on here that a smooth bottom actually will slow you down in the water.

I think that may have been another forum...

I think you're maybe seeing flaws in the original gelcoat & or glass work. If it helps you get better at prepping & shooting paint, I'd suggest a quick slightly aggressive sanding & 1 more shot of primer. Esp if knowing the ripple is there will bug you. At this point you have the primer (I'd guess) so it''s time & sandpaper. But for sure give WOG, Andgott, GT1M or someone that's done a bit of paint work a chance to chime in:)

If the fish notice, we'll fry & eat them first!

Loved the flip video... Organized chaos... The dog trying to chill out under the boat... All's well that ends well.

I can't really see the ridges in the pic.... Maybe shoot some primer on it first and see how bad it looks to you. At that point you can do some fairing compound. If the part that concerns you will be below the water line, I wouldn't sweat it too much.... 99% of us restore these boats to use 'em - not show 'em... Focus on quality, not perfection... (man, although I will never be as wise, I am starting to talk in short quips and abbreviations like bondo..., maybe I need to take a break from these forums).

When I was in College, A LONG TIME AGO, I use to Drink Ripple when I was Broke. I have since quit. I don't even worry about Ripples since then and neither should you. Not in a bottle or a boat. It's like my face, it has ripples, but they just add character.
