To satisify my curiousity, was that fiberglass you dumped in while mixing?

Yes , they recycle fiberglass , treat it some kind of way , then it goes back into your boat.

Decker,
I hope at least my life time!

Jon,
Thank,s , it,s kinda hard to make vids when your camera man/woman has to help with the process .
You also have put up with bad actors! :D

Well, I'd say that transom will be there for the next NOAH!!!! Nice job!!!!! I'd recommend for future Seacast transom builders to get a couple of rubber mallets and beat the HE double hockey sticks out of the transom during the pour. From my reasearch that reallly helps in the settling and compression of the product. Guess I shoulda mentioned that earlier, huh!!!!!!

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

I looked every where for my blankety blank rubber mallet and forgot to pick one up on the way home . I just made do. The 1/2" plywood forms were tight against the skin so beating on them I think worked ok. I just took the forms off and man it feels good and solid!
I asked seacast about maybe using a vibrating sander while pouring to get it packed in and they said DON,T use the sander . Just tap on the sides to get it moving down and release air pockets.

Keep up the vids... We love to see 'em. Seacast Transom....NICE! I know it's pricey, but that sure does look like a quicker process that what I have been going through the last 4 weeks or so.

Thanks Pmc , you can do this pretty quick if you want to. The reason it took me soooo long was because of the price!
Ain,t to much disposable income these days..

Ok with the transom poured I want to reattach the top cap. Is there any reason for the cap to ever have to come off because I was going to glass it on at the inside connection point .

I was also thinking of adding a few gusits up in the cap then drill hole for wires.
Do you think it,s a waist of time?

You could do that or... glass some pvc pipe pieces. thats what I did. The way you're building her, I wouldn't think you'd need to take it back off. You could use 3M 4200 to seal it back up

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Huppp ! just found my rubber mallet in one of the kitchen cab drawers. How in the world did it get there !
Ya know i was also thinking of running a long run of pvc pipe down the gunnel for a wire/cable chase and then when she,s flipped to do the hull refoam around it .

cut 4" piece of 1 1/4" pipe then cut a full length 1/2" slot on the table saw. Then used strips of CSM to Tab em up under the gunwales. Slot lets you get the wires in.

Tilt the slots up at about 60? so you can get the wires in but they can't /won't get out. I also used the grey foam pipe insulation to slip inside the pipe and around the wiring to protect it from rubbing on the pvc

Did you glue the foam to the inside of the pipe?

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Getting ready to put the final glass and start fairing the transom. I,m needing to fill in some low spots . Should I pb it flat before laying glass or lay some layers of csm to bring it close so I don,t have to use so much final filler?
Thanks for your input gentlemen!
