OK I need input from the sewing circle..

Stoped by my moms house to give her valentines day gift and started talking about dads bout restore.
She has this machine that she has never used. She is quite the seamstress and has sewn upholstery many times.
She is in her 80,s and still makes wedding gowns curtains for extra income. She said she would love to help make seats!
She,s one sweet lady I can see what dad saw in her! Maybe this mach will cut it ?

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

I checked online with some of my SM sources. That is an OLD machine and is rated for heavy duty work. One guy said he made upholstery and sails with his with NO problems. Looks like it needs a good cleaning and you'll be good to go.

Yep my link for the vinyl supplier should be able to supply you with the perfect vinyl. Hint. Buy the vinyl then tint the paint to match. What is that, and what's it made from? Vinyl??

I think I'd use masking tape to build a "Dam" around the edge set it on some wax paper and then mix som 10 min. Epoxy and pour it over it and let it level and harden. that should do the trick.

Can I get that in small quantity from a auto parts store or maybe HD?

Is there any 'real' difference in the 'for plastics' epoxy? From HD, that usually comes in a double syringe plunger tubes and is available in black.

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

It mixes & flows like other epoxies I've used. BUT THAT ISN'T exactly A LOT or even a bunch of epoxy. Definitely be mix, time, and temps sensitive....

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Looks good, and the good news about paint is its easy to sand once it cures.... I never noticed/looked before, the wheel is smooth? No grips or finger detentes? Much easier to spray & if too heavy sand. My factory wheel has rubber grips that are SHOT, & the 'new' wheel has finger detentes @ 2/3 of the circumference....

In these pix all looks great! 4 or 5 more boats & you'll surely get it nailed!

What are you doing in early fall 2012? Spraying a '60 FireFlite?:D If you get an even dozen under your HVLP trigger finger, I'd happily make it a baker's dozen!

Well I did stop at a house with an old Orlando Clipper 13 or 14 ft in the yard . No for sale sign. Some cat lady came to the door . The cat was on a leash ! She yelled in the house ,MOM HOW MUCH YOU WANT FER THE BOAT! Mom answered , Can,t find no title fer it! Ok , thanks for your time. It was a real cool looking boat . Hate to see em just rot away!
