Restoring a 72 Chevy is a perfect excuse to set the Daytona aside for awhile...but only for awhile...:)...that's the generation before mine...I really like that body style...tons of character and awesome potential...
Big Block or Small Block??? Auto or stick? C-10?, 20? Long Bed? Short Bed?
I just gotta know...:watermelon:

Small block, long bed, A/T P/S P/B A/C Cheyenne Super.

Looks like you put in a great 12 hrs.. But I'm not sure which one looks better, all the glassing or the Ron Paul pic..

Have a great week..

Yeah, that is one cool looking truck...you gonna keep it original or go Chip Foose on it?:)
I saw the pics where you already did the front suspension...nice!

I typically lean toward original with a few bolt ons. Two winters ago I completely rebuilt the entire suspension and brakes front and rear. Every piece is new with the exception of the hard brake lines. I did a 2/4 drop with new springs. I converted the rear brakes to disc instead of drum. Next up is drive train. Not sure if I want to leave the 350 or do an LSX conversion. A newer fuel injected LS with an overdrive trans sure would make it more usable but again I tend to like original.

I don't see anything wrong with a modern drive train under what is basically an original body...
Like you said, makes it more user-friendly...better overall performance, reliability and fuel economy...
Depending on the gearset you have in the diff, you could slap in a nice highway cruise gear ratio with a posi-trac/limited slip...heck, you could run it in a Hot Rod Power Tour set up that way...:)

Well nothing much to report on the boat...just waiting for a price comparo on the expanding foam...
Once I know which way I am gonna go for the purchase, I need to get it ordered...
Once that stuff is poured I can get some serious progress done on my redesigned interior...

Happy Wednesday...Iboaters...:D

Just laughing because I literally have no idea what you just said up there ^^^^ It all came through in muddled, Charley Brown-teacher voice...

Re: Love, Necessity and Pride

Morning to all on this start of the workweek for most, Monday...
I just wanted to pop in to give a NON-update, update...
The official start of my third year since I started this long and winding road trip to a newer and better boat has officially become reality...
I am still awaiting a very important fact {read; $$$ comparison between suppliers} pertaining to the impending purchase of my expanding foam and will not be able to make any further progress on my tub until that mission is accomplished...
I am just noting that I may end up where most others end up after all is said and done, and place my order with US Composites...
I have three other places that are checking the prices for me and so far I got one response...
It came from my neighbor who works with the yachts...
He can get me 2- 55 gallon drums [1- Part A, 1- Part-B} of 2# expanding urethane foam for a really good price...however, I don't plan on mass producing the "Bassassin" and can't justify spending a little over 1700.00 for the kit...:faint2::laugh:

Anyhow, I should hear back from my other 'feelers' before the end of the week and I will make my decision then as to who is gonna get the green for the goo...
I am very anxious to get this hurdle behind me, as I can see some good progress on the boat, in the very near future, once this is done...

Hope everyone has had a fun weekend with their boats and may the week go swiftly and quietly into the past, for those anticipating the next weekend...:D

Hey, if it'll help you out any, I'll take 3gal of each. :watermelon:

Ok, so now let me see, that's $1700/110gal = $15.46/gal

3gals of each = 6gal total

$92.76

A check is headed your way of $105. Feel free to keep the overpayment to put toward shipping & the gallon containers to put it in.:D

Thanks buddy

Your the best

:peace:

Can Carmin get the stuff?

Have a great week......

You could always insulate the house with the remaining foam after doing the bassisn...maybe the neigbors too!

I think somewhere in Friscoboaters Sea Ray he had a good price for the foam..

With 110 gallons you could just use the foam.. Who needs all that glass and resin anyway..:flypig:

Re: Love, Necessity and Pride

Itching to do some boat work while waiting to get my foam...

What's this?...noooooo, not MBS...

Work colleague's 21' CapeCraft Center Console with 200HP V-6 Merc...
Long story, short...
He bought it new back in '93...around 2008-2009 he had new stringers and transom done, make a note, less than 15 yr.old boat, stringers and transom rotted out...anyhow, got it done, went out with a couple of friends to Elliot Key for some fishing and frosties...
Guy who did the work seemed to have forgotten to install a valve on the drain/scupper? [I don't know all the details, since most of his explanation is in Spanish...I know quite a bit about boat terminology in English, but almost none in Spanish]...so he and his buddies are out having a good time until they notice water is up to their knees...next thing you know, glub, glub, glub...to the bottom it goes...
Another passing boat saved their skins and after a few days he had the boat salvaged...the Coast Guard gave him a hefty fine and was going to start charging more fines if he didn't get it out...
Sooo, he brings it home, let's it dry out, motor's shot...sits for a couple of years, gets a new, used motor {the Merc mentioned above}...find's out the electrical system is shot along with numerous other things that go bad when a boat has sunk and sat...
Last year he finds out that his son in Cuba is in line to get an exit visa and love the water...fishing, free diving, etc...He gets all fired up to get his boat back in shape so when his son gets here, they can enjoy it...
Enter yours truly...everybody at the shop considers me the boat guru, so me and Pedro start talking about what has to be done to his boat to get it water ready...
Last week was a dead slow week at the shop so he asked permission to bring it to the shop so I could take a good look at things...
Current assessment, Motor is in excellent condition for its age, runs smooth, needs tuning...
Electrical wiring in serviceable condition, switches and gauges are shot...
Motor Control needs proper mounting...
Overall general condition of hull is good, transom is still rot free after I finally convinced him to let me drill some holes in it and the stringers are visible under the glass work and are still looking light and dry...
One outer section of the original deck is soft and will need replacing...it was never removed during the original trans/string replacement...not a high priority on his list, but I have convinced him that it will need attention before someone like me puts their foot through and sues him...

So far I have made some new mounting brackets out of angle aluminum to secure his motor controller...

I removed all of the bad wiring and gauges...

And fabbed up a new dash panel out of some Starboard using my favorite idea making material...cardboard...
