Re: Love, Necessity and Pride

Did they have the little ridges that a lot of aluminum rims have and you polished them out ?
Yes, Sir and yes...:)
Actually, I sanded them out starting with 40 grit and working all the way up to 800...
Then I used my super secret :peep:, highly classified :spy:,newly created final step before a final hand polish...

Don't tell anyone, because if you do you will have to...well you know...

I used a 3000 {yep, I said Three Thousand} grit sanding pad on the D/A at a very slow speed with Mother's to get that final shine, then just a quick wipe with Mother's and buff...;)

Oh wow! Super find and nice work cleaning them up!. .....and

I know this is a totally frivolous expense for an absolute vanity item, but what the heck...
.

...While perhaps not mandatory, nothing spent on a boat is frivolous (or maybe all of it is...) Either way, it doesn't matter....

Nice wheels mate!

Great looking rims, all the better after the 'Gus' treatment :) Center cap too!

Interesting {TBD} stockpiles, intriguing.............. Excellent pending possibilities.....

Gt killer job on the rims as usual!! Were they clear coated, and will the polish protect them from corrosion? Did you use a primer under the black painted parts, or just some kind of cleaner prep?

They Look new!!:D

Thanks, fellas...I am pumped with how they are turning out

Thanks, SBB...
Actually they are just polished, no clear coat...the black areas were originally painted a light silver, they were still in good shape, so I just Scotch Pad scuffed them and applied some semi-flat black lacquer from a spray bomb we use for touch up on certain areas of cars...like bumper reinforcements and the like...
The boat and trailer will only see freshwater and the Mother's polish is so easy to use, that I am going to see how well everything holds up as is and report back after a season or two of use...
Hope everyone is having an awesome weekend!
:D

Re: Love, Necessity and Pride

Small update...
Cut out a rough cardboard template for the first section of decking...

Here it is wet and drying out to make it as flat as possible...

And here is the plywood, cut slightly oversize for final fitting...

And the first test fit...

Many steps yet to go, but it's a start...
Have a great week, Iboaters...:D

Thank you all for dropping by...it is an inspiration and support like this that makes all the bad parts of restoring a boat just fade away into nothingness, again, many, many thanks!
Still busy at work, which is a marvelous thing...helps keep the $$$$ tree fertilized...:D
I am hoping to get some more decking cut and fit this coming weekend so I'll be sure to alert the crew when it becomes reality...
Happy Camelus dromedarius Day!

Re: Love, Necessity and Pride

Thursday update...
Here is a shot of where the Center Cap for the new rims came from...One more to go...

These are the original seat bases from the boat...
Right after a good sand blasting...

Then I sprayed them with Primer and Semi-flat Black...

And finally gave them a little spit shine...

I think I like how they turned out...:)
Hurry up Friday!
