Well at least on the interior of the hull...

All the stringers and the entire inner hull wrapped and layered with 1708...

All told to this stage...including all previous work...ie, transom, cross brace, etc, etc...

Used 24 Gallons of resin...waste equal to less than a few ounces...
Used 14 yards of 50" wide 1708
Used 10 Yards 0f 50" wide CSM
Used 1-sheet MG 3/4" X 4' X 8' ply {transom, cross brace, bottom hull stiffeners and lower drain panel}
Used 2-sheets AC Fir 3/8" X 4' X 8' ply to construct stringer blanks
Used 1-Gallon Titebond III Glue for all lamination's
Used approximately 8 pounds of chopped fibers, to make PB
Used approximately 6 pounds of Aerosil/Cabosil to make PB
Used approximately 8 gallons of Acetone for cleaning of tools and hull wipe downs...

I did not waste any mixing buckets or chip brushes...I would clean them after each use and reuse them until they would break or just give out...approximately half a dozen various sized mixing cups [mostly the quart size and a couple of 2.5 quart size]...
About 8-10 each, 2.5" chip brushes...
Most of the above tools are still in existence and re-useable...
A couple of cloth type rollers, one did not survive, the other is questionable...

Of all of the tools and materials mentioned above, a portion of them were used in the re-finishing of the hull bottom...

Total number of hours to this point = your guess is as good as mine...
Total dollars spent to this point = Fugetaboutit!
Total enjoyment to this point = 96.3%
Total frustration = 3.7%
Total education, gratification, friendships established and pride of accomplishment = PRICELESS

Let me add that the hull has a "Solid as a Battleship" feeling to it...

My next major goal is to cut down the transom to the correct height, add the "nailers" all around the inside edge, and begin the massive mission of cutting, gutting, remodeling and rebuilding the CAP...

I definitely feel as though a HUGE milestone has been reached on this project and I certainly could not have reached this goal without the incredible help and support of all the Iboaters here, who have shared their knowledge, experience, positive persuasion and general kind-hearted abuse...

THANKS!!!

Stay tuned for more to come...
Have a great week! Y'all...

Gus:
Congrats on reaching a significant milestone:

(a) Interior Gutted and Ground: check
(b) Stringers and bulk-heads: check
(c) Prime and Paint (beautifully done): check
(d) Trailer rehabbed with new bunks, etc..: check
(e) Sub-deck structural fiberglass work: Check

Its the checking of boxes that keeps you motivated to move on to the next stage..

With those big interior lay-ups of 1708, the Bassasin is going to be strong as an ox....

Good work, my good friend.

Re: Love, Necessity and Pride

Thanks guys...means a lot to get all the positive kudos...

Like I said, it feels like a monstrously huge hurdle has been jumped...I honestly did not foresee reaching this goal when I first embarked on this epic journey...after this accomplishment, I really feel like the rest of this restoration is going to be a totally happening thing...:eek:nthego:

Came home today intent on getting the transom trimmed down, which I did, but it got too dark to take a pic...so it really didn't happen...:embarassed:

Then, while I was making all kinds of noise and wood smoke, the Big Brown Truck showed up with this...:surprise:

It is now official...

I have joined the Iboats Sewing Circle...:yo:

It is going to be awhile before I ever get to actually use this thing, but it is here and seems to be in really nice condition...in the meantime I will be acquiring all the info on how to operate it, and all the accessories I will eventually need, to tackle some basic upholstery work...

Happy Tuesday and may the week fly by...

Hurry up weekend, I got more work to do on the boat...

Nice looking machine! Variable speed seat cover fabricating device (as close as I could get to CW's better description).....

How's the Tower looking these days? Visits from the brown van are great!

How's the Tower looking these days?

It is looking somewhat neglected, but that will change as soon as the cap gets going...
I am hesitant to start assembling it until I can hang it back on the transom...don't relish the thought of putting together a 5 foot long 350 pound engine on a wooden stand and then trying to wrangle it on to the transom...:faint2:

Keep forgetting to mention this...

When Glassing...

If you work anywhere near direct Sunlight, your resin will kick as fast as a few minutes...
Just being in the shade, any shade, will extend the kick time by several minutes...
When I was doing all my layups, the weather was extremely pleasant...from a low of the mid 60's to a high of the high 70's...
Being under the shade of the roof, the resin would stay "workable", meaning I could go back and "pop" any offensive bubbles, as much as 45 minutes to an hour later...
If I wanted to kick what I had done, quickly, so I could climb over it, I just pulled the boat out into the Sun for about 15-20 minutes, and the resin would stiffen up right away...
I was also catalyzing at 1%...

Gus, wow! awesome progress this weekend. That is some mighty fine looking glassin on the Bassassin. What a huge hurdle you went flying over this weekend. Not only is the rest totally doable, I have every feeling that you're going to have a boat people will be drooling over

Welcome to the Morse club as well my friend. I hope we are both learning to sew about the same time
