Re: Love, Necessity and Pride
Alrighty then...
Sunday Update...
Glassin on the Bassassin is DONE!!!
Well at least on the interior of the hull...
All the stringers and the entire inner hull wrapped and layered with 1708...
All told to this stage...including all previous work...ie, transom, cross brace, etc, etc...
Used 24 Gallons of resin...waste equal to less than a few ounces...
Used 14 yards of 50" wide 1708
Used 10 Yards 0f 50" wide CSM
Used 1-sheet MG 3/4" X 4' X 8' ply {transom, cross brace, bottom hull stiffeners and lower drain panel}
Used 2-sheets AC Fir 3/8" X 4' X 8' ply to construct stringer blanks
Used 1-Gallon Titebond III Glue for all lamination's
Used approximately 8 pounds of chopped fibers, to make PB
Used approximately 6 pounds of Aerosil/Cabosil to make PB
Used approximately 8 gallons of Acetone for cleaning of tools and hull wipe downs...
I did not waste any mixing buckets or chip brushes...I would clean them after each use and reuse them until they would break or just give out...approximately half a dozen various sized mixing cups [mostly the quart size and a couple of 2.5 quart size]...
About 8-10 each, 2.5" chip brushes...
Most of the above tools are still in existence and re-useable...
A couple of cloth type rollers, one did not survive, the other is questionable...
Of all of the tools and materials mentioned above, a portion of them were used in the re-finishing of the hull bottom...
Total number of hours to this point = your guess is as good as mine...
Total dollars spent to this point = Fugetaboutit!
Total enjoyment to this point = 96.3%
Total frustration = 3.7%
Total education, gratification, friendships established and pride of accomplishment = PRICELESS
Let me add that the hull has a "Solid as a Battleship" feeling to it...
My next major goal is to cut down the transom to the correct height, add the "nailers" all around the inside edge, and begin the massive mission of cutting, gutting, remodeling and rebuilding the CAP...
I definitely feel as though a HUGE milestone has been reached on this project and I certainly could not have reached this goal without the incredible help and support of all the Iboaters here, who have shared their knowledge, experience, positive persuasion and general kind-hearted abuse...
THANKS!!!
Stay tuned for more to come...
Have a great week! Y'all...
