Any progress is better than none .. ;)
Is the bottom of the ,for the lack of knowing the correct term, middle assembly the actual vent plate ? Hard to tell with the pic but it looks like ya have it set at a good height .. Bolts through top hole with plenty of room to go up if need be ..
I need to study up because it we are getting real close to mounting the o/b on Lisa's boat . I don't want to mess up ! :)

Nice work Gus!! Happy to see you are making progress. Like you I live in the beautiful weather of south FLA and have been here all my life. I have never gotten used to the summer time and the humidity and the ever present rain this time of year. Truth is it's just too humid for just about anything and my little boat is suffering for it. Still...your tent is a great idea. I have one over my little guy and it's great working in the shade. Unfortunately I have been so busy with my new venture--selling LED lighting for marine application--that it's left little time for anything else. Not complaining...business is crazy good right now so I have to ride that wave. The boat looks great...you are an inspiration to a lot of us. Keep it up!

Hoping you have a tight line and a fair breeze.

Steve

The anti-vent plate is actually part of the lower unit and sits a couple inches or so lower than what you see in the pics...I still need to hang the L/U on it, set the trim to a level with the bottom of the hull, and see where the A-V plate sits in relation to it...
At this point in time it looks like it might have to go up, but like you noticed, the bracket is on the top hole which leaves about 2-1/2" of upward movement...

Thanks Steve,
I know exactly what you mean about the humidity, man is it stifling! Even with a decent fan blowing under there it feels like a sauna...
Keep riding that wave as far as it will take you and may it prove an awesome ride...may it also prove a fruitful venture...Best of Luck!
BTW, you know you have a standing invite any time you happen to be in my "hood" for a cold one and lunch...

Thank you, sir...shelter just wouldn't feel right without that awesome shingle hanging from it.
Hope all is well on your end and glad to see you poking around...:joyous:

It's getting serious with "solid aluminum motor mounts"! Great work as usual, Gus.

Thank you, sir!

Well, well, it looks like The A-V plate is closer than I thought to being in the right place...
Temporarily installed the L/U, lowered it into a position that was about parallel with the bottom of the hull and was pleasantly surprised to find that it is actually about an inch to an inch and a half UP from the bottom, which according to all the research I have done and advice received, is headed in the right direction...
The pics below hopefully show what the relationship of the A-V plate to the hull bottom is supposed to look like...
I think I am going to leave the current set up this way until after I have done some on water testing and then decide whether or or not to raise the engine up any more than this...

Getting set to take some eyeball measurements...

Using some aluminum sections as straight edges to get an idea of the A-V plate height...

And yes, the L/U is still awaiting some TLC in the form of basic maintenance and paint...items which you can be sure will be attended to in due time...;)

Happy Sunday, iboaters...

Lookin good GT!!

It's been a colder then normal summer in Michigan. What's it been like for you?

Won't the zinc plated bolts still rust up a bit?

Thanks SBB,

It has been typically hotter than "H" and Humid as a sauna...

Not too sure how much they will rust, given that this tub will only see fresh water, but if I start to see signs of oxidation, I'll happily replace them with 316 Stainless...

:)

Great thread GT...been lurking here for a couple years....I really want to start trying some of this glass work after I get the shop insulated....

One question, if you have the time.

How, on this green earth and blue water, are you getting your pics to post????? Absolutely incredible.

Nice work on the shelter... Nice seeing a l/u and prop and on the back of your rig... Looks good. I agree, the line up looks like a really solid starting point. You have those hydraulic cavities (not sure if that is the right word) on the bottom of your hull so you may have to tweak a bit depending on how the water flows under your boat, but it looks great. Keep on trucking....

Where did you buy your shelter and about how much did you pay?

Found the best deal for this particular shelter [King Canopy, 10' X 27'] on Amazon with free shipping plus tax for a grand total of $283.93 and it arrived almost before I finished placing the order...talk about fast shipping...

There were several others available, some even for less money, but this one had the most legs to stand on and the reviews were favorable...

Thanks Patrick,
I am stoked about being able to get this set up, even though it is all going to have to come back off...but hey, at least I have some new holes in my transom......;)

Not much to report as far as progress on the old "Bassassin", but I had a wonderful day today...
An iboats member, "IUPapabear", made a side trip down here to Miami for a visit...
We only had a couple of hours to hang out and the time flew by...
It was like getting together with a old friend and we talked about everything under the sun, especially about, well you know, boats...
We had time to go see my marine supplier and picked up some resin so "Papabear" could get started on his restoration...
The visit was over all too quickly, but even though it was short and sweet, the memories of it will last a lifetime.
Thanks for dropping by and I will be looking forward to the progress you will accomplish on your restoration.
All the best! "Papabear"...
