Well its been almost a month since any real restoration progress has been made, but finally a little, albeit temporary and partial forward progress has been made...
I, like Troop, have been dealing with landscape issues, although nothing quite as severe as storm damage, just cleaning up some way too overgrown trees that are more of a nuisance than anything actually beneficial...
Those being mostly taken care of...I was able to spend the day today drilling 4 new holes in my transom...for the eventual mounting of the Tower of Power...
Mind you, this is all just temporary, as it will all have to come back off to allow the completion of the splash well and making clearance for the 2 bottom motor bracket nuts and washers, as you will see in the following pics...
I even went so far as to mount the intermediate housing to get a pretty good idea of where the anti ventilation plate will approximately sit in relation to the transom...
It is really one of those, one step forward, three steps back kind of deal, but it feels like progress none the less...
Hopefully, I can get some more figuring and calculating done in the next couple of weeks to actually make some permanent forward progress...
Until then, here are the pics of the motor bracket and intermediate housing, installed and the T&T actually used...
Made a drill guide out of 3 scrap pieces of 3/4" plywood, glued and screwed together, then drilled with the 1/2" drill bit on my drill press...
And another drill guide to reach the lower mounting bolts by drilling into a chunk of 2x4...
Then, after drilling all four mounting holes, I attached the Motor Bracket using Zinc Plated, Grade 8, 1/2" X 13 X 4" Bolts, Washers and Locknuts...
Need to grind out some clearance for the lower bolt washers and nuts...
Attached the Intermediate housing using brand new solid aluminum motor mounts and Grade 8 Bolts, Washers and Nuts...
And did a quick test of the T&T...
Like I said, this is all just temporary to get some measurements and it will all have to come back off, but at least it was a partial forward step in this long and drawn out restoration...
Hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend and may all our boats remain rot-free!
