If I remember correctly the bulk heads were foam cored . That should help with weight a little . ;)

May the great big blue karma elephant leave copious amounts of fertilizer at your disposal for frequent feeding of the moolah tree of boat funding.

The harvest has come in!
No actual boat work performed this weekend due to Holiday and Family...which in my book is actually better than working...On ANYthing!!!;)
More to come in the next couple of weeks...
Hope everyone has had a Blessed and very Happy Easter!

Happy Easter GT1M and your family as well. I know my family had a very nice Easter. And the egg hunt was so funny too. To see the grandkids standing nearly on top of an egg and not see it was really funny to see.

Oh, by the way, when does the second story go on your boat project?

Hope you all had a Glorious and Blessed Easter too! The weather was wonderful for Egg Huntin' in Missouri and the grand-kids made out like bandits. All except the baby. Lil' Ducky really didn't know what it was all about as he is just barely 1 this year and his new tennie runners were messin' with his walking.

Adults made out too. The youngest and her boyfriend hosted the Hunt-N-Feed at their house, so I didn't even have to BBQ!

Thanks for stopping by, Ken...hope all is good at your end.

Thanks for the Easter thoughts, guys...had a nice day with Family...

OK, been a couple of weeks since anything of any significance has happened on the "Bassassin"...

I am sad to report, it may well be another week or two before any further progress can be reported...
Got up early this AM to go fetch some plywood... I was able to get my buddy and use his truck to haul it home, since it won't fit in my van and my truck is on indefinite hold, and when I got to my favorite lumber yard, they were down to one really carppy piece of AC Fir in stock...I need 3 more sheets...so that was a bust...

Came home and started to do some home work to try and find some decent stuff at one of the big box stores...
Finally found some "Plytanium" at Lowes...which according to the specs is basically exterior grade sheathing made with waterproof glue...C-C faces, but for my purposes, which is to make the casting decks/hatches for the boat, that would be A-OK... plus the price was right at about 20 bucks a sheet for 19/32" X 4' X 8'...

Unfortunately, by the time I got back to my bud with the truck, he had been summoned by another friend, up North...wasn't worth it to have him use up a bunch of diesel to come back, since from there he would continue North to his weekday living quarters near his daily grind...

Anyhow, if I can score another bud with a pick up truck before the end of the weekend, I will make a run and see if I can score some ply...
If not, next weekend will be here just in time to try again...

Hope everyone is having an awesome weekend and may the work week fly by...:plane:

Bummer about the plywood. Do any of the retailers in your area offer free delivery?

Must be somethin' in the south florida air, gus!!! I hate these little unnecessary, pesky delays. I'm kinda in the same boat(ha ha). Farting around with transom cutout, glassing the top of the cutout. Put my little 25 merc on it the other day to measure the transom height & despite my $5 float, wouldn't start. Think the inlet needle is sticking. Ordering a new one tomorrow. Also noticed the water she was peeing got pretty hot..still a steady, hard stream, but pretty warm. Dropped lower unit; impeller looks ok except for one spline that is kind of cocked the wrong way. Will order a new impeller as well tomorrow. I swears....I'm this close to just dropping a few K's down on a brand new engine!! This piddly carp is about to drive me back to drinkin'! If I was a lil' closer, I'd come down & help you get the wood...at least the delays will help fertilize our money trees!!! Hang in there buddy!!

Yeah, no biggie, just another silly delay that will soon be overcome!
Nah, no such luck on the free delivery...they charge a pretty penny for that kind of help...plus most of them wouldn't even look at delivering 3 measly sheets of ply...a pallet, maybe...

Ya know, I think you are right...must be sumtin in da air down here...
I quit drinking...
I think its time to fall off the wagon again...
Hope ya get the engine snorks worked out...be sure it runs on the rich side...2 strokes don't like to run lean...I have always hedged towards a bit smokey and smelly as opposed to a clean running 2 stroke...a bit less power, but the life span is greatly increased...
I don't even want to think about when the time comes to start putting my ToP back together...talk about Humpty Dumpty...

Have an awesome week, y'all and hopefully I'll have something positive to report by then...
:D

Minor Progress Update...

Wow... Really starting to look like a boat again - you are getting there!!
Sorry about the setbacks on ply, but its worth the wait, because you wouldn't want to disgrace that foundation ^^^ with unworthy materials :)

Take care good buddy!

Thanks Patrick...
Hope all is good with you and yours...getting out on the "Nymph" often...?
Yeah, actually as things seem to be working out, my buddy with the truck, also my boat building assistant, Gabriel, has informed me of some rather good tidings...:eyebrows:
He too, works on boats and just happened upon a supplier of quality boat builders plywood up in his neck of the woods...
He is going to check on prices and availability for me, and if all is good, will pick up the ply I want and bring it by this weekend...:cool-new:
AND, it may possibly include a slight discount since he is in the biz...
So yep, as has happened before throughout this build, a little waiting time has usually "paid" off in the end...:whoo:

OK, still not quite to this point yet, but soon...
I understand the cavitation plate of the outboard motor is usually in line with the bottom of the hull...
On my tub, the transom is built with a kick out or set back as illustrated below...
Which of the two lines, RED or GREEN would be the correct height placement for the cav plate on my set up...?

Thanks!

GT1M, Actually having the exact same type boat once that you are rebuilding, I'd say some where in between. And the reason is because as the lower (bottom) of the actual hull is stepped, when the water comes across the lower section the water kicks upward. And if you set the cavitation plate at that lower point, the cavitation plate will have water going over the top of the plate instead of underneath. I actually started out with the engine setting too low on my setup and it was a total hand full to steer when I got around 50 + MPH. There was more throttle left, but I couldn't drive through the chin walking. So I installed a jack plate and raised the engine up and it was night and day difference to drive and the top end speed when up to 63 + mph and steady as a rock too... So somewhere in between that you will have to trial and error...
