Re: Love, Necessity and Pride
Sounds & looks like a good weekend 'round the GT work/shop & homestead. Jeez are ya bathing in the resin, 37gals, several more 5'rs to go
Have a great week.......
Thanks JC, sometimes it does seem that I am taking a bath...and yep, prolly some more 5'ers will meet their demise by the time all is said and done...
That's gonna be one tank of a bass boat Gus!....I may have to buy stock in Poly resin......
Hurry before I use it all up...
Whoa does she ever look stout!
I'm thinking a compactor would ride up and over that boat of yours...
The other day one of my co-workers asked if I could put an SUV on the deck and transport it like a barge...
GT1M, WOW 37 gallons and you are not finished? Me thinks you need to replace all the foam with Helium... And I haven't even purchased one gallon yet for my boat. Is there going to be any left?
Hurry, before I order the last of it...Hey if I could make the under deck area gas tight, that wouldn't be a bad idea, but how much more resin would that take...???
I certainly hope so,, I will need a few gallons for mine..
Great looking work Gus..
I promise I'll save some for my Iboats brothers...
Thanks BV...
With Resin and Glass that's over 300lbs on board so far!!! I wonder if there's a published "Boat Resin Diet?"
You may have hit on something there woody...I may start writing soon after I finish this crazy project...
Thanks, SBB!
Nice weekends progress....and if you are like me you have 120 lbs of pucks lying around...
Thanks Troop, yeah, unfortunately, or fortunately...depending how you look at it...I have been pretty good at keeping my waste to an absolute minimum...Honestly though, I have used some on a few fiberglass repairs I needed to do to a couple of cars...One was practically rebuilding the aftermarket/custom, front fascia on one of those Mercedes Benz truck/vans [like the one the American Pickers use], a couple of Corvette fender/quarter panel repairs and a Lincoln Navigator hood that was unavailable...
GT1M, I think you are going to have to start drilling some lightening holes in the sub-structures now.
Not a bad idea, but then I would have to use more resin to seal the edges of the holes...
Actually, guys...
I am not that concerned...
YET!...with the amount of resin/cloth I have put into this tub...
Let me 'Splain...:blah:
Ya see, initial findings show that the average
BASIC restoration, which includes stringers, transom and deck, will consume about 15-25 gallons of resin + cloth...taking that into account, I have added a completely new interior/upper cap section to my build and I have been fairly meticulous about making all the wood going into this bucket be as water resistant as possible...
Meaning that every piece has at least one layer of extremely thirsty CSM, and in a few areas, even thirstier 1708 in others...Plus PB really consumes this stuff, I would even venture to say that a good 1/3 of all the resin used has been for PB...
All this blabbering is just to point out that the extra Re-building and redesigning are to blame for the enormous amount of resin being consumed...
In the end, I may lose some load capacity, top speed, fuel efficiency, cruising range and the at rest water line might be several inches lower than originally designed into this boat, but heck it should be pretty solid...
eep:...
Happy TWOS day, fellas...
