GT1M,
You must be a bachelor, if I did that in my house, I would be getting a letter from my wife?s attorney stipulating what she wants in the divorce.
I back perfectly well now, including the dreaded s turn that KFA was talking about, but that first year or two it was horrible hearing that voice in my head?.LOL.

Re: Love, Necessity and Pride

Thanks guys...

All that house "pimpin" is what gets me limited priviledges from the Admiral, just ask Jas...

Only problem is if I run cable and add the recliner, the fridge is only steps away, I won't get anything done...;)

Still waiting on the neighbor, but that's OK, 'cause I am going to get the "Bassassin's" skeleton dry-fit before doing any resin.:)

Got a bunch of pieces parts to cut, trim, adjust, fit...etc.

More progress soon...

Have a great week, y'all...:D

GT,
When you glue up the next peices put a screw or two in them to keep the parts aligned before clamping.

Doing a good job.

Gt, glad to see you coming along.. Looks great so far....you might want to relocate to your outdoor shop when you start playing with the poly resin... That stuff stinks bad enough to knock a dead buzzard off a sh$@& wagon...

I guess I can tell you now, drive a couple of small nails in and snip the heads off fairly close then glue up the transom. They'll keep it from "Creeping" on you when you clamp it. Solly Cholly I'm a little late for the Dance!!!!

Re: Love, Necessity and Pride

Thanks for all visits guys,

I am fired up even getting this much done...

Hopefully this weekend I will actually start to layout my new stringers...woohoo!

I might be applying my first bits of resin within a couple of weeks...

My neighbor is double-checkin the resin prices for me and should get back to me by the weekend...

Yep, my indoor priviledges only apply to "clean" work...the stink be banished outdoors!

No problemo, I left enough fudge factor on the wood, Wood.

Plus, I fingered out, after spreddin da gloo, I jes put a cupple o temporary clampos whilst I's a puttin the biguns on...;)

I'll prolly end up with less than 1/4 inch gap all the way around after final fitting...nutin lil PB wont take care of...

Anyhooo, large portion of the strength will come from the cross brace...

In the middle of laminating my 2 foot wide by 16 foot long stringer blank...soon as its done I'll post some pics...

BTW Wood, those clamps are the "cat's Meow!" I luv'em!...

Hasta L8R...

Very cool... Although I was struggling with the Board pattern a bit... B,2,4,1 (is that like an engine firing order?). Just messing with you..

Give me a little more detail on how you did this... Did you just stagger the boards down the line...?

I know this is earlier in your thread, but what size and type of ply did you go with?

Thanks

Looking good GT. you have enough room to swing that out the door?

What size sheets you using on the stringers?

I'm hoping to be ready for some wood in the next week. I am a bit of an optimist though, not even half way done with the grinding.

GT1M, buddy, when did you install the fireplace in the bbe? sweet man. I love your glue up on the stringers. How long did you let each section sit before you moved the clamps?

You know I'm just stealing your learning process...

GT1M, buddy, when did you install the fireplace in the bbe?

Speeds the resin cure w/ nice dry, low humidity heat!!

GT: It''s been awhile, did you get your old stringers out in used for a template condition? I have visions of you firing up a table saw in the new digs & trying to run that 16' plank through it a couple times:facepalm: Better leave the door open & run 'em kitchen to porch through the front door.....

Re: Love, Necessity and Pride

Been crankin it out since early this AM, I hate to say it but I am having one SPECTACULAR weather day...it's a mild 64 degrees, the Sun is bright and shiny, and you are all prolly gettin jealous, so let me get to the Explanations while I get ready for some Hot Dogs on grill...:p,
Let me try and answer all questions
OK, first things first...

After that I end up with 3 Each each; 3/8" X 2 Ft. X 8 Ft. and 2 Each; 3/8" X 2 Ft. X 8 Ft. pieces of ply...5 Pieces total...

Using all of the factory edges as a guide, I glued the first 2'x4' pc. to the first 2'x8' pc., then flipped the piece and attached the next 2'x8' pc., flipped again, next 2'x8' pc., and finally the last 2'x4' Pc. End up with a 3/4 inch X 2' X 16' Stringer Blank...

I applied glue to both pieces, fairly wet application, clamped the pieces overnight...24 hours later, the next section and so on...

Used just shy of about 2/3 of a gallon, for the entire 'Blank', of Titebond III waterproof glue.

I did save the original stringer pieces...since I am basically doing a new interior design, I am not copying the original pieces, instead, I am only using them as a rough reference.

Then I took a page right out of "archbuilder's" book, and used strips of cardboard and hot glue, to make a basic template of the shape of the hull...

To Be Continued, next post...

Part Two...

Close up of the cardboard template for the Knee Stringer...

DSCF1490.jpg

And VWAALAA!!!

This is where I am at so far after some sanding on the stringer to finalize the fit...

DSCF1492.jpg

Check out that SKY!!!^^^^^^^^^^^No "Blue Elephant" a.k.a. "Dust Dome of Doom" Today...

DSCF1495.jpg

Next I'll make a reversed copy of this Knee Stringer for the port side...

That will give me the new base height for the rest of the stringers...

Hope that covered all the Q's, but if not let me know...

More pics and updates later...

Thanks to all for poppin in!

The grill is hot-n-ready for my dogs, so TTFN...:D

PS- Don't tell anyone, but the fireplace is fake, I just threw it together with some left over wood from all the house interior remodeling...it is usually TOO dang Hot down here in South Florida to ever really use a fireplace...
