Re: JB-Inflamatory Topics

WAAAAAY too much technical jargon here in "nothing to do with boats"... makes my hair hurt! Yamaha, injection, blah, blah, carbs, oil, fuel, blah, blah. <br /><br />Have any of us met many certified mechanics, marine or otherwise, who thought their own opinion was anything less than "The Gospel According to St. Fixit"?<br /><br />Must one be a forest animal to find his way through the woods?

I don't play favorites, I flame everyone with no regard to race, sex or sexual preference. As Trent and Walt will atest, I'm not known for playing nice and as most will notice (if they can see past their hurt feeling) the postings on the site went up. When I play nice, I usually start getting those stupid get well cards in the mail. At JB's advanced age, I suspect he's had his feelings hurt once or twice and should be use to it by now. I don't know how Trent mistakenly mistook JB for our friend Bo Pikas, Bo would have taken his time and caught me with my pants down and taken advantage of me. I'm not going anywhere SCO, so JB better get his delete button ready.

Beaux,<br />Not an attack at ya, more of an inside joke. ;) I was horse-whipped a while back for being involved in a "guns" debate over in the "Boating" section. I may seem abrasive at times, but I assure you, it's all in fun, my friend. (Happy 100 posts, by the way) :D <br /><br />Of the 15,000 or how ever many members we are strong now, I'd bet there's a few more people like me who PRIMARILY come to this board to either be amused, or be amused by being amusing. Not to say that I may not have a relavent question in the future sometime, just not right now. My fishing boat is real simple with as few contraptions as I can get by with. Here in Nebraska, my boat will become nothing more than a "shelf" until spring... can't even cut a hole through the Ice for another month or so :(

Re: JB-Inflamatory Topics

There are a lot of people who post regularly here, that at one time or other, have made a reply that was "flaming" or hurtful, including JB. We get over it, we are big boys and girls! <br /><br />If someone gives bad advice I support someone more knowledgeable stating that the previous post is BS as long as it's not a personal attack at the incorrect poster. Non of us like to be told we are wrong, but I think we come here to learn from others and the marine mechanic's that do know it all, may learn something from us "mere mortals" on other subjects. <br /><br />JB you agreed to take on a very tough job and I'm sure you realized you would be heavily criticized especially when you closed a string that you personally were involved in. Its a thankless job that not many would take on! <br /><br />I'm concerned that one wrong key stroke and this could be me
spank.gif
<br /><br />I hope all this "Parental Control" and bickering has not driven one of the remaining true gentleman, Schematic away from the board. I have never seen a post from him that was not courteous, professional and darn right Wow! Please don't leave us!<br /><br />LC

Re: JB-Inflamatory Topics

Since we are here and it has been brought up. I appreciate the fact we have fellows who make a living repairing boats and are up to date on the latest developments in repair technology. What I don't want is one of these guys ever posting a reply to my question. The reason is I am not a boat mechanic and have never been one. I am a guy with limited knowledge and tools and all I want is the quick easy way to check or fix my problem. I don't want an over technical explanation. I don't want arguments over things. I don't want to know that this is a better way than that when I don't have the stuff needed for this or that. what I want and have gotten in the past is the jack leg shady help I go to those boards to get.

Re: JB-Inflamatory Topics

Well I guess I will just have to keep my mouth shut then if the only ones that can post any answers to people's questions is the high price "Boat Mechanic".<br /><br />I would hate it so bad to answer someone's question with a solution I have used, just to have someone say I was stupid or did not know what I was talking about. <br /><br />It's a shame that it has came to the point where someone thinks they are better than I am, when I know all men are created equal. <br /><br />So what if I am not the smartest person in the world. That don't mean that I might not have some kind of good input on certain things. <br /><br />Needless to say, I have learned a few things in my 49 years. <br /><br />I just hope this forum does not come to that. <br /><br />This thread has gone a long way and I have said my peace so I will move on.<br /><br />There are other forums out there in this vast internet world.<br /><br /> Everyone have a great Thanksgiving, I know I am.

All,<br /><br />I think what Spinner was saying is that he doesn't feel his posts are of any value because he is not a "marine technician". <br /><br />Sad, very sad. :( <br /><br />I'm trying to keep this as calm as possible-but.<br /><br />Rudeness and flaming have no value to what this board represents. If you are God's gift to whatever-so be it-humility speaks volumes. If you want to help someone-please go ahead. If not, don't speak.<br /><br />I took great offense to the "number of posts" remarks. I've posted a great deal, simply because I am passionate about boats and their systems. Someone decided that I was an Admiral because of that. Big deal. Make me a "bilge rat", (but, please-not "dock boy" ). <br /><br />So what, I'm no expert, just wanted to lend a hand when someone needed it. <br /><br />Those of you, out there, that are marine tech's., I for one appreciate you being here.<br /><br />Spinner,<br /><br />I appreciate your posts. :)

Re: JB-Inflamatory Topics

If you in the hospital and the doctor walks in and says this my first day I have never done the operation befor but Ive read out it. Second The doctor walks in says hey man are you ready Ive done this operation a thousand times. Who do you want operating on you and on this forum its free. How about the nurse comes in and says I have to draw your blood. Who do you want someone who done it for years or this is my first day I have never done this befor. I will take the person who does it every day a thousand to one. Most men who own there own business are usually type A's Thats why they own there own business. They get the job done.If you want the correct answers you need to deal with these guys. I can speak for my self I have been self employed all my life and in the marine business, successful and love the business. What gets me is the information that is misdirecting people with incorrect knowledge. Whats going to happend is the knowledge guys will leave and you will have people quoting from books who have never turned a wrench. I want the guy who has done it any day. Theory is only a theory its not reality.I feel bad when someone is given bad information it bring the business down. Its kind of like a serve writer giving you advise when they have never seen the problem. When you car is broke do you bring it to the best guy or the newest guy. I think money plays a role too. I never worry about the price of fuel. I buy what I want and work hard for all of it.If I need service on anything I find the best guy I can. Thats a doctor, car guy or having my lawn cut.

Re: JB-Inflamatory Topics

vinney, thats all well and good and I am sure everyone on this forum appreciates your's and everyone else's advise.<br />But it can be done without calling people names and such. Not talking about you, just in general.<br />It does not only apply to boat mechanics either. I have seen this on several topics.<br />Just don't call me stupid or tell me that I don't know what I am talking about. Just put in your .02 worth and let it go at that and let the poster take the advise he wants to.<br /><br />OH YEA, one more thing.<br /><br />Happy turkey day to all at iboats.

Re: JB-Inflamatory Topics

So who's going to answer all of the questions posed on this forum. Are you one of the good doctors? Cause I didn't know that good doctors had to tell their patients that they were the good ones. A hospital is fully staffed .If my choices are having the best doctor(if available),a somewhat skilled doctor , or no doctor at all,I'll opt for the somewhat skilled doctor, instead of bleeding to death if the good one isn't available.Particularly, at a free clinic.<br />See,that's the whole delima here.If only the marine trade mechanics on this board replied to questions posed you guys in the bussiness would have to close shop and answer questions 24/7 or start charging for info.<br />Don't get me totally wrong ,I was power plant technician for more than twenty years. Many of the new employs that were brought aboard were young guys that didn't know a coupling alignment from a cup of coffee. They didn't have much knowledge to offer in problem solving unless they were taught by us.Some of the old hats gave these guys a bad time until they started learning the trade. Some couldn't handle the ridicule and drug up.Most of them had the potential to be an asset to the operation if they were made to feel like a team member.<br />Same thing here.A star running back can run faster and dodge more defenders in a season than the second string running back ,however the star can't run every play of every game. And while he's on the bench ,he can't afford to compare his abilities to the guy that's giving him a rest.Especially if the guy "aint" getting paid.<br /> Most of the good people on this forum will yeild their further comments on a subject that is out of their league to a proffessional that wants to elaborate. Some won't .But most will.<br />I think you'll also find that most also respect the knowledge of a person in the bussiness if he in fact earns that respect by mutual respect.<br />Knowledge by itself in society simply isn't enough ,we have to be compassionate as well. That's what "really" matters when all is said and done.<br /><br /> Happy Thanksgiving :)

Re: JB-Inflamatory Topics

You are right ob. If I see a topic that I think that I might be able to shed some light on, I will. I just don't want someone to come in and say, "That's the most dumbest thing I have ever heard".<br />Just come in and give your .02 worth and be done with it.<br />If your the expert, then the poster should have enough common sense to see that you know what you are talking about by the way you respond.<br />In other words, "Your actions speak louder than words sometimes and people will see by your actions that either you know what you are talking about or not".<br />All the name calling and flame throwing is not helping that poster, who had a honest question, out much.

Re: JB-Inflamatory Topics

I take it you have never been in a hospital There are good doctors and poor ones. You need to be thank-ful that you have never been real sick I have and had doctor after doctor till I found the man who had the best education and knowledge he fixxed me. Thats whats wrong with this site I have never herd so much mis information. There are a bunch of people that dont have a clue. And when you say something so some poor stiff does something that could cost him money, money he probly doesnt have. You get a bunch whiners because there feeling got hurt. get a life if you dont have a clue keep your mouth closed. You hide under this vale of being nice and sweet for lake of knowledge. If you keep thing this way you need to have a disclaimer that what you read is not correct but everyone is real nice. The real world is not sicky sweet. Get real. It seems the people who do the most complaining are the people who know the least. I would bet the rest of there life is the same way. I dont appoligize for my education, knowledge, strong work ethiic.People pay me alot of money for my knowledge and we give it free and hear a bunch of whining from people who arent looking for help. If you want people with no knowledge your doing a great job.

Re: JB-Inflamatory Topics

Well vinney, if you last remark was pointed at me thats fine. <br />And no, I have been here for 49 years, and I have had to have the services of a doctor 1 time and that was to get my tonsils out many year ago, so yes I am knocking on wood right now.<br />I will still add my .02 worth on a topic if I think it will help someone.<br />You people with all the knowledge comes in and put's your .02 worth in and that's fine also, but leave it at that and move on to the next topic that you might be able to help someone with. Don't hang around and tell someone they are stupid or the such.<br />By the time you did that, you may have missed a chance to shed your light on another subject that no one else on here knows anything about.<br />I know I don't do to good with my grammar, but I don't see anyone jumping on my case about it,<br />so back off some. If you got something important to say then say it and leave all the flaming and name calling out of it.<br />There I'm done and you all can just have at it.
