Re: hull extension in progress with picks

the lift was going so smoothly.......

floatingsetone012.jpg

we had people in all the right places

floatingsetone014.jpg

it was going smoothly

floatingsetone013.jpg

them murphy showed up!!!!!!!!!!

someone pushed on the hull hard...........it flipped ...... hard.....really hard

floatingsetone015.jpg

the tow truck line had actually cut the hull when it flipped......it was that quick....

floatingsetone016.jpg

i watched in horror as the hull flipped and the cable from the tow truck ripped into the hull /bow nose......in the above pic you can see the cable ripping into the hull !

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

what we did not see or know at the time .....was the rear hook actually let go for a second.......i didnt see it and i was on the forklift at the transom.......i was watching the bow......the people in the boat yard were all watching thru the window....and they all said the hook i was using from the fork lift came right out of the eye hook on the transom ! as it was flipping violently.....it re caught and ant slipped in to the hole on the eye hook !.......

big angles were watching out there....cause the chances of the hull not dropping from 8 feet when the latch fails are slim and none....!!!!!

everyone that saw that could not beleive it.....i found out later....i didnt even see it as i was watching the bow.....

after the near catostrophy.....the hull....(ripped in the front 1 inch on the dow cap joint) was lowered to the trailer

floatingsetone018.jpg

then the transom

floatingsetone019.jpg

we had to get it just right on the trailer

floatingsetone020.jpg

but finally it was lowered in place

floatingsetone025.jpg

tacklewasher did a great job of the pics.....

floatingsetone029.jpg

finally it was on and looking good

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

tackel and i strapped down the hull on left for the place where the cap was

floatingsetone033.jpg

where we live........in the mountains....it gets dark really fast.....

this pick of us getting ready to flip the cap was only fifteen minits later.....

floatingsetone037.jpg

it eas all hands on deck.......but we got it on ....its just sitting there... i will have to lift the cap again......but its on

floatingsetone041.jpg

we really had to fight to get it on......as normal....but its on.

floatingsetone043.jpg

iut will need adjustments....and i have no doubt that it will have to be taken off another three times before its on for good.........but its on there for now

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

then came the fun...........

we were finally at the boat launch.....and a boat was on the ramp with the motor down..........skeg dragging on the ground.....bout a 150 hp merc....on a go fast........the guy had lost his hydralics....he could not lift his motor....so he dragged it up the ramp......and was working on it.....trying to lift the hull to get clearance on the skeg to get him home.....tackel and i worked on the problem for half an hour before we jacked the boat up and he was confident he would get home without not riding on the skeg.......

we finally got him out of the launch......and it was our turn......:)

we backed the boat into the water......touched the transom into the water.....

floatingsetone046.jpg

as a christian....i would not do the traditional maritime launching prayers.....so i did a prayer and christened the boat....saying its name ....i whaked the bow eye hook with a bottle of corona wrapped in three plastic bags against the bow eye hook.....it broke clean......

floatingsetone052.jpg

tackel and i then poured beer all over the bow...!!!!!!!! :D

and let er float !

floatingsetone059.jpg

the boat sits on the water perfect......

i was really worried about weight......the poly resin that i put on weighs about 1200 lbs....the cloth.....another 500.....plus....more for the wood ....and so on....!

the boat floated perfectly.........better tham my wildest dreams........the chine area was at least 2-3 ins above the waterline....

Looks amazing. Love the concept of a V8 powered twenty-some foot closed bow "runabout".

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

Congrats Oops!!

Exciting to see her on the water for the first time! Also, seeing the wide angle shots of the boat in daylight, it's a lot easier to see what a great job you did on her. The lines look great!

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

I came home just beat last night. Straight to bed.

I'll load up pictures tonight, but the important ones were on opps's camera.

SHE FLOATS.

Nice and level too.

Murphy was just teasing us last night. Even he wanted it done but had to do just that little bit. He made a small crack in the hull from the tow truck cable, but an easy repair and it did not come past where the cap sits.

The way she sits in the water, she's gonna be one quick boat.
