Oops,
I just wanted to say hello. It's been months since I've been on here and the first thing I did was got caught up on your thread. Keep up the great work! I can't wait to follow the sewing part of this.

I feel like we've all grown up together through this thread.

oh......the other thing....

the dash board and console shape i made.....

063.jpg

its .....well.......just kinda plain.....not sexy enough for me.

im thinking of re designing it...

something totally different and special..... a real one of a kind.

this will mean tearing the current one off....and fabbing a new one....

then fitting the new one on .....fairing it in.....and then paint.

something more involved than this....but i like the sweeping lines and contours

2131463379_1a83b7c4eb.jpg

that process could be posted here with out worry of giving away the theme of the boat....
and i think this style of fabbing has not been covered here at iboats before.

any opinions ?.....what are your thoughts on changing the dash?

Oops!, would you please shoot me a link to the thread with the dashboard. I used to have it saved to my favorites but for some reason I just can't find it anymore.

hey i got a MFG speed boat its 17 feet long and 6.5 feet wide how much would it cost if i made it 18 feet long 7.5 feet wide and make the body higher out of the water and make the bow ( the front v hull) wider and make it look better because the front of the mfg boats look ugly. how much would it be for the materials. thanks evan!

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

hi evan......if your serious about doing this.....know that it is a ton of work.

the cost for materials alone will be around 4-6k that is including the sand paper and little stuff that you dont know about till you need them.

if you dont have a really big air compressor and air powered long boards.....now is the time to get them....

start a thread.....and post pictures of the boat ......you will need to know alot about how and where to cut, as well as what type of forming material to use and how.

also....keep in mind.......when you do this......everything will be different about the boat.....each wire harness......each cable....its all different. these will all need to be ordered new.

dont forget your windsheild will also look funny with the new legnth.... so it may have to be rebuilt as well.

if you really want to do this....do it as a project....and know that it is a project.
if you are doing this just to have a boat for next season......your better off to buy a different boat.

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

im not really sure of where are now bud....are we just talking about a transom deck?....
there is more to is than that....the foam and stringer will more than likely be shot....if so...

1500 is a high guess...

the wood will be 400 at 50 bux a sheet.

the resin will be 700
the glass.....200
the foam will be 300 at least.
then the grinding discs....sand paper...fillers...
it adds up quick

but if you are widening, extending, and adding freeboard....(basically making a bigger boat out of a small one) the costs will triple

How about we just label it an overly ambitious epic project if it gets started.

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

dont forget a pile of chip brushes, mixing buckets, rags, etc.

I have about $1700 in transom, stringers, and a bulkhead. all in a 6' x 4' area. then again, I also added two 55 qt coolers

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

ok guys , i think its going to happen. i am going to remove the upper half , the washboard right off the hull and reapir the hull underneathe little digs e.t.c then i am going to put in new bulkhead , sringers and a new transom and the put the new deck in( already got the materials for the deck) then i will put the upper half back on and i am going to paint it teal sides copper underneath and grey washboards and deck then put a stereo and seats into it but i can find used seats for a dirt cheap price. also my trailer has a new axle and i will be welding it up good and i got black paint to paint that with. i am just going to repair the boat and fix it up not make it bigger. i am guessing the price will be about 2000$ after i am done( anyone got a rough guess)?? i will spend 2 grand if i can get the paint stereo and fix her up like i plan. i would like to because its a classic and its a shame not to plus i would like to have some good fun in the bay with this boat. i got a 1988 evinrude 70hp motor that im going to put on her aswell if i do the project dont worry pictures will be posted! thanks for everyone help on the fourm.
