He's pulling a motor tonight. Got all the marine add-ons to go on it.

Stopped by for a quick one. He hopes to be on water in 10 days or so.

Hello,

Going up there for work on June 4, coming back on the Monday. Will drag the boat up so it can be the chase boat if required for your maiden voyage. Looking forward to seeing the OK guys.

Have a great day,

Rob.

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

I finally convinced oops! to put the V8 in the boat and he sold the V6 so there's no turning back now. He got a great deal on all the parts needed to marinize and install the 350 in the boat so thats what we are working on. He does have the exhaust manifolds but they are very large and heavy so he's looking for a more suitable set. We'll have the engine out of the van today and cleaned up for paint and installing the marine parts on the block. If the lousy steering cables would get here in the next few days we could get it on the water for testing fairly quick. With RobJ,Tackle and Yar on the surface as chase boats all we need is to find someone with a submarine, just in case. :D

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

Hello All,

It took days to read through this thread. It really is approaching novel length. I have to say though... that it's more of a 'page turner' than Stephen King :).

I'm new to Iboats.com, this is my first post. I ended up here while searching for info on a power problem I was having with my Johnson 30HP outboard. In fact... iboats.com kept comming up for every search I did. Turns out, it always had the answer to the question I had.

iboats.com IS what makes the internet the outstanding source of information that it is.

The title of this thread caught my attention while searching for info on a clutch dog. Once I started reading... I had to know how it turned out :D.

At page 40... I figured with almost 80 more pages to go, I'd get to 'the end' for sure. Turns out... I caught up to 'real time'. There's a little dissapointment in not being able to 'finish the book' but at the same time... I've very glad that I'll be able to experience it 'as it happens'.

The amount and diversity of information on this single thread is awesome. There's also a lot about motivation and the idea that with enough persistence, HUGE projects can be done.

I've decided after reading this that I'm going to take on a project that I had always put off as 'just too big'. My trailer has a lot of rust. It needs to be sand blasted, painted, wiring and needs new rollers. After having completed this thread, this project seems tiny and very doable.

Thanks Oops, good luck through the final stretch, I'll be eagerly awaiting the final chapter :D

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

Welcome to iboats Doolin. You can bet when oops! started this little project he had no Idea all of the time and dedication it was going to take. I do know for a fact without iboats and all of the friends he has made on this site,he would never have gotten through the last year and a half. There's still some time to go but the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter every day. Just this afternoon we were sitting around, after getting the engine out of the van, enjoying oops! favorite beverage and mrs oops! was trying to convince him to go camping for the weekend. Good luck with that mrs oops!, ain't gonna happen! We put in a 10 hour shift fighting with the van and another one of oops! boats and his plan is to have the motor ready for install by monday. It probably won't go in then but it will be more motivation to get the other things finished. The problem now is there is so many little jobs to do it's hard to keep focused on one thing. I have about a week of holidays left and I'm hoping we can have it on the water before I have to leave. Before he gets all of the interior upholstery and paint work done he wants to run the boat and see if the hull handles the water well. It would really suck if the boat was no good after all of this.

I'm about as far as from being a pro as is possible but with the attention to detail that Oops! has put into this boat... I can't imagine anything less than an exceptional result.

The boat floats level... the fairing (which a pro would need 2 days to do) was not deemed acceptable until it was perfect to within a tiny fraction of an inch even though that effort took months (including a pair of... um 'professionals'... 'helping')... it's going to go straight.

He's got a great motor for it.

I'm sure you could support the entire weight of the boat from any point on the boat :D

I think at this point for it not to come out exceptional... something would have to 'happen' to the boat.

I'm convinced that if Oops! found even the slightest imperfection... at the point I'd call done... he'd be suited up with some 'power tool of distruction' in hand... ready to spend the next several months (if necessary) fixing it :D

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

I'm not too concerned about the structural integrity of the hull but how it rides in the water. The nice thing about the boat, before it was extended was the ride in the rougher water. It would hit a larger wave and handle it without slamming you around and that's why oops! liked the boat. It rode better than most others he had been in,and if that ride has been changed very much it will be a disappointment to him. This is NoKlu, I borrowed oops computer.

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

That makes sense. He had the budget to go new if he wanted... but made the effort because of the ride quality.

Again... from the complete rookie perspective, if the two aspects that changed are length and weight, shouldn't that improve the ride?

I would expect that the additional weight (bigger motor and a LOT of glass) would keep the boat more stable (take a lot more force to 'throw you around') and doesn't additional length help to smooth a ride out by spreading rough conditions over a greater area?

I'm very anxiously awaiting that first run... kinda like waiting for a baby to be born (both the excitement of it happening... and the concern that everything go well).

Hey Oops

Would you be able to post some video of your sea trial when it happens?
That would be awesome!

Keeping my fingers crossed...
