Re: hull extension in progress with picks

all th folding logistics of the fiber glass/wood tower are not as of yet complete.....but it should not be a problem as i have several easy ideas on how to fold down the tower.

interior2withtowermockup008.jpg

the whole idea of moving the tower so far backward is to break yp the extremly long line of the hull.

interior2withtowermockup009.jpg

tha actual tower will be thicker......and the wing portion.....thick enough that a person can sit on it and fish!

interior2withtowermockup011.jpg

i really appreceate your ideas and opinions on this design.......if it looks stupid or good.

any comments would be appreceated as its allmost time to get it started.

cheers

I think aesthetically it looks good because the square corners play off the square windshield frame. Have you tried moving it to the aft to see if it looks more balanced or not? How about some pics with it in different locations?

BWT, how are those bench seats coming? Looking forward to seeing the mold finished.

I still like it, after checking it out more. I still like it.
I can easily visualize it white maybe have the top wing part with a gentle curve in it.. so it sweeps twards the rear (just a little) the uprights should be oval shaped.. man I wish I could sketch

Foldable.. uh.. maybe so it tilts forwards and lays on the bow.

twards the top of the uprigghts put in some caddy lights..(the big bullets)
2 on each side..

I still like the fold down TV Idea

Speaking of the window frame... the arch will look quite nice if you can put some bare aluminum accents on it to match the aluminum on the windshield.

I'd go so far as to say make it look like an aluminum frame with some flat materials between the tubes, but that might be too hard to pull off.

For the arch you'll get the best strength if you mold it rather than building a core, and use metal tubing for the inside structure. What I mean is use glass and mat or whatever to make a half pipe type mold of the vertical and horizontal shapes, then pull enough lengths of shell out of that mold in fiberglass to form the arch (1 half pipe per side of each section), ideally covering a welded metal frame that backstops/holds the actual tow points. The shell would also let you run wiring through the inside of the arch.

If you're going to have an arch that high above deck, don't forget to design in a couple LED courtesy lights.

I think I know what you want to do, but I think the proportions are incorrect. The balance is not there and the boat still looks incredibly long. I agree with whomever suggested moving the arch towards the rear and then snap some pictures for us to view. What about a arch/hardtop that went not only forward but slightly aft as well? That may bring the dimensions back into proportion.

I think it looks great but since the supports are so wide i feel it looks like it blocks visibility alot. I think if it were my boat it would eventually drive me nuts having to look around these massive supports all the time. How strong does the core material need to be since your glassing it? How hard would it be to wrap PVC pipe in glass and would it be strong over spans that long?

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

I like the 3rd mock up, but think the windshield needs to be about 50 to 100% taller to add some "mass" back to the front. Its important to keep the wing at the same angle as the windshield or it will hurt to look at it.

The windshield itself is OK, maybe building a 10 or 12" high "wall" or base under the windshield just to raise it up enough to look proportional. Plus it will probably be higher than eye level when seated so you don't get the annoying dry eyeballs from constant wind in the face. Might even give more space for a raised dash to stick all those fancy electronics and gauges. ;)

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

with #1 the windshield height doesnt bother me.

I like the position of the wing in #3.. but the windshield height would need another 50% added to it.. given the current rake of the windshield.. that would look strange... and if you made a "wall" of some sort to sit the windshield on, that would be adding a whole new dimension to the boat.

personally.. leave it near the front.. and leave the windshield alone.

or.. move the wing to the rear, and take 25% off of the height

Hello,

Plans are to leave tommorrow after work and be up there later in the evening. Not sure if I will be able to make the party tommorrow night, but Thursday or Friday are fine. I have your phone number and will give you a call once we reach Kelowna. Will take my coveralls for work, but not the Tyvex ones for grinding. Don't mind getting dirty but hate being itchy.

Take care and have a great day,

Rob.

Thursday night works better for me if others are amenable. Wife's already out and stuff.

Re: The Tower ... Here's a thought - Why don't you scrounge up a couple of screw type garage door openers. Mold in the screw channels to the rail top and then mount the tower to them. You can get a couple of small 12v motors to turn the screw and that would let you position the tower for optimum performance or asthetics as you desire.

I like all of them but either lowering it or making the window higher.
That was a great idea to do that give us all and idea.

rob.....see if you can get away earlier....it would be great for you and jody to meet.

(but i just saw tackelwashers post....so what ever works out best for everybody.)....

the only real work we will be doing is either build that swim grid wood form....or take the gellcoat off the top deck.....thats not itchy.

everything else is just waiting for materials.

drive safe......we are getting warmer here....that means fog and possibly some ice still at the top of the connector.....and thats a bad combination.
