HEYYYY EVERYONE!!! Well the first few photos are of the boat going on the trailer. We had a buddy come over with his John Deer tractor and help jocky the trailer around for me We then had to take the toung off the trailer cuz the boat is so freaking long it wouldn?t fit on this tri axle.

These are the MOTORS!!!! My buddy liked em a lot as you can tell by all the thumbs up. I tell ya what, I didn?t realize they were about 6ft tall!!( look at the photos and see how tall they are next to marcus). They have a few dings in them, and the lower units are pretty rough looking, but next week I will and them down and paint them. Make em look brand new!! By the way my mechanic went through them, and we very happy at what he found, said they are turn key. His bill was 1100 to that brings the total to 9200 for twin 03 250 evinrudes, oil tanks, gauges, wiring harnesses, and 1 counter rotating SS prop. Its not a STEEL but I think I did good??

Lastly, ok I might have embellished yesterday when I said the boat is 100 percent primed. The painter went through and spot primed everything yesterday, (where I did my work) man I gotta tell ya, I DID GOOD WORK haha, not all of it was me though, he did spray a guide coat of black on and said there are a few spots he is planning to go over. But here it is in the shop! Take a look

What about those hatches and doors and stuff? Are they going to be painted to match? Do you have them or were they stripped from the hull?

Hey! Are those 2x4's Marine Grade? :D

Re: HUGE PROJECT!! 30' Scarab Sport overhual

Mark,
The 2X4's are all resin sealed!

The hatches and deck covers i do have, the cabin hatch is a white plastic which will not accept paint but is ok cuz its like new, the deck hatches are being painted, infact in one photo you can see the gas tank hatch standing up on the side.

The rail stays, it was corroded shut when we have the boat in two piece and i didnt wanna take it off and replace the bolts cuz the rail was the only thing supporting the bow at the time when it was in two pieces upside down. So we left the rails, the painter said "no problem" and he could tape around them and then i will come back with caulk and caulk the meeting.

Re: HUGE PROJECT!! 30' Scarab Sport overhual

Hi John!

First of all RESPECT from my side for Your GREAT project! It is awesome!

I keep my fingers crossed!

Here is short question from my side to John and all of You who participate in this forum:

Since some time I started to think about PARASAILING as a great way to make money and have my own "company" ;)

The problem is, that all of commercial parasailing boats cost a fortune!

Do You think, that it would be a good idea to buy old Scarab Sport hull, renew it (exactly the same way John is doing it), install hydraulic winch system and change the bow space, so that it can seat as many "customers" as possible? Good idea?

What about engines? I think it would be possible to build them inboard, right? In alp aksu they even built parasailing boat with Hamilton Jet turbin with electr. trimflaps. Do You think it would be doable with Scarab Sport hull?

I will be very gratefull for any info and ideas from Your side, that will get me closer to my dream about commercial parasailing boat within reasonable budget.

Best regards

Adam

Anythings possible i guess, but a scarab seems the furthest away from this goal. maybe find something with inboards already, or atleast configured for it..

It really comes down to how much blood sweat and tears you want to put in.. mostly the sweat:p
Also raw material costs wont be cheap, for that kind of extensive reworking...

Re: HUGE PROJECT!! 30' Scarab Sport overhual

Hello,

I have forgotten to write, that I'm also considering one of 1980's Formula models (beacuse of inboard engines and great space for landing parasail at the back of boat) or 1994 Sea Ray 240 Bow Rider to start parasailing career.

The problem is, that in case of Formula, I would have to change cuddy front into bow rider type of hull. Do You think it is doable?!

Hydraulic winch system parts are quite expensive but these (from safety reasons) are things You should buy brand new.

Please, let me know what type of boat would You choose for commercial parasailing boat project.

This subject is quite new for me so I would like to gather as many opinions as possible before I invest my money.

Appreciate Your help!

P.S. Thanx for info legoman67! How much cash do You think would be needed for materials only?

Re: HUGE PROJECT!! 30' Scarab Sport overhual

HELLOOOO, well here are some progress photos of what has been going on this week. Last night I stopped over at the painters to see how it was coming and he taped off where all the non skid goes and applied the first coat of non skidd. He was going to apply 3 coats of it total. You really cant tell that there is non skid on the boat, but he has applied one layer. If you rub your hand on it you can feel it and it seems to be coming along!! Tonight he said he would be 100 percent done with the boat, which means if I make it home in time ill be able to take photos of her! Saturday we are going to pick her up.

OH!? Whats this? Is that another A-frame I see? Yeah?. We built another(smaller) A frame so we could pick up the motors and set them on the back of the boat Saturday. This A-frame is in the front yard, I swear my neighbors are so confused by all of this. They thought all the ugly work was done, now they see this!
