PL is a great adhesive, its our go to "stick all to anything in a tube" at work. Great to hear more progress! Keep it coming

Its putty, pumped from a putty gun most likely. Many boat companies bond in floors and other parts with putty pumped from a 55 gallon drum, it's catalyzed at the gun head, mixed well, then oozes out the end of the mixing tube right where you need it. You can make the putty yourself, or buy a pail, the difficult part can be getting all the putty in place and the floor down before it gets hard, longer gel times work well in this process. don't push the plywood down hard, just set it down in place. The floor can be glued down too, with a 1" gap it's a little more difficult though. If you use masking tape on each side of the stringer you can make a form (dam) to hold the adhesive in place. Again just set it down in place, don't walk on it until its completely hard. PL or 5200 will work.

Try 3m 8609 it is a urethane putty used to glue in winsheilds in you car or truck. When used it actually becomes part of the car frame actually stronger...Its a urethane and only $8 a tube from sherwin william's... automotive divison

Tailgunner, the only problem is, is it flexable like caulk? i need something more ridged cuz the floor will be getting most its strenght from the ridged stringers. So is that all the sugestions?

ondarvr nailed it john.......he has seen more boats being built than all of us put togeather.

you could also use peanut butter....but youd use a ton of it.....

If done correctly yes it will, let us see what Ondarvr says...he seemed to recomend 5200 and 08609 is stronger and denser i have used them both..and more abrasion resistant....You could alway's get a tube a do a little experiment with a mock setup..its incredibly strong.

While flexible, these will work. All three products are of the same type, flexible urethane adhesives, while they won't be exactly the same and I can't tell which one is the best, they are similar.
Even though they flex, there will be enough surface area to support the floor without much movement. The other option is polyester putty, buy it or make it.

Little side note...a automotive winsheild lives in by far more of a hostile enviroment than a deck of a boat....Have you ever seen one fly off down the highway..;) Just watch your build thickness aka no more than 1/2 inch thick....

That's part of the problem, it needs to be built up to around 1".

That's part of the problem, it needs to be built up to around 1".

Uniformily a inch around the whole deck or just in certain area's....man that is more than fudge room....how about the outer peremiter of the deck does it need to built up or is that level and inner stringer's are that short..

Read a bit futher if it were me i would take a chalk line find all the low spot's, create the resivor's with tape as Ondarvr suggested....as long as the majority of the deck is level with the stringers...i cant see why 8609 would fail..its just another urethane glue that can take high impacts and adverse weather condtions..

But you are going to have that cap lined up and ready to drop irregardless of material 08609 once poured you will have 10-15 mins to lower the cap it would take a lot of prep and maybe a few practice runs which may make it impracticle....but it is denser and stronger than 5200

Re: HUGE PROJECT!! 30' Scarab Sport overhual

thanks guys! im going to use this product called "gunk" its just what you described Ondavar. The plan is to first fit the hull to make SURE it fits and all is well. Then i will raise it back up and have 3 guys mixing gunk and putting it on the stringers, about 3/4 high over all the stringers. This will be to close any inconsistencies and fasten every inch of that floor to the stringers. TailGunner, no its not 1 inch low all over but when I pulled it apart their were a few spots that were low. Im just making sure I cover all my bases you know? Like I said everyone pray for good weather this weekend and you will receive some great photos of her being put back together!!!

I'm chiming in a bit late but I would pull some strings, and using a router with a pattern bit true them all up. Then if it was all too low shim it with plywood.

great name, especially with what you started with.. and the work you have sunk into it to get an awsome boat..

and when people ask what you paid for it you say.. $800.. with $8000 dollars and hundreds of hours of blood sweat and tears poured into it.

Re: HUGE PROJECT!! 30' Scarab Sport overhual

i have estimated that by the end of the project including trailer i will double my orginal 8000. I like to look at is as if i were to buy this boat new it would be close to 10 times that.....
