Re: HUGE PROJECT!! 30' Scarab Sport overhual
HELLLOOOO ALLLL!!! Well, I made it to the 4th page! Man felt like I fell off the face of the earth!!! Well, I have been quite busy! Me and a few friends cut the rest of the stringers and cleaned the one sided piece of fiberglass and then we began cutting out all the wood for the stringers which was a day of work in itself. We were like Santa's little helpers, all cutting difference piece and fitting them in place. We then bedded all of them and resined them to the existing fiberglass. After these dried for a day we then came back and Tabbed in the other side of the stringers first with a 4 inch tab, then right after with an 8 inch tab both of these were done in 1708 BIAX. And well we just kept on goin like Forest Gump.....and before you know it we were 100% done with tabbing all the stringers! So needless to say this weekend made us 95 percent done with the Hull work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!WOOOOOOHOOOO!!! Now the plan is to come back with 3/4 oz glass and "water proof" the rest of the stringer. This was a great weekend for us! We ended up getting a lot done, like I said only about 2 hours of glassing the stringers completely in and we are done with the hull work! The one photo shows all the stringers fitted in place. I ran out of light tonight to take another photo of the tabs, but I promise the work looks great!
FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO WERE WONDERING!
The procedure I did with saving the old stringer fiberglass is working GGRREAAT! (I will recap for those of you who forgot out me this past week!)
I took the grinder and cut right down the top of the stringer and peeled back one side of the rotting wood, while leaving the other side still tabbed in and intact to the hull. I then cleaned out all the old rotting wood from the inside of the fiberglass that was intact and then replaced new wood. I slapped resin all over the exisisting intact fiberglass then coated the entire stringer in glass. I then put PL5200 on the stringer and then screwed the intact fiberglass to the wood and let it dry. It worked out great! They are as solid as a rock and that was before I tabbed in the open side, I can?t wait to see how strong they are after I have tabbed these in today!!!
UPDATE! I was blessed with finding a brand-new Armstrong B bracket on Craig?s list with a full transom swim platform! These list for 3200.00!!! I got mine for 800.00!! 150.00 shipping! All I have to say is the deals are on Craig?s list!
I am going out of town on work training this week, so no progress will be made till next weekend, so take a look at the photos, PLEASE make some comments, (I love to read your thoughts on opinions) and I will get back with you all next Sunday with updated photos of the glass work and photos of this new bracket!
Take Care!
