Re: Here I go again!! 1995 Sea Ray 220 Signature Deck and Stringer Restoration
I have a question. I'm currently looking for a 20 ft bowrider, either 80's or 90's. I could end up in the same situation you are end. I know this project sucks so bad because you paid for a lake ready boat. But if you had bought this boat, at the right price, knowing what work it needed, would it be so bad? The reason I'm asking is because, is it really difficult work? I know it's VERY time consuming, but is it very expensive? Do you have any idea how much it's going to cost you? One thing that would make me feel better is if it really didn't cost much, but in the end, you will basically have a brand new boat. And you will know it was done right, and will last for a very long time. That is worth a lot.
Also, I've read about people going to Lowe's or Home Depot and using composite decking boards and the decking. Probably not as nice on the feet as snap in carpet over fiberglass, but you know it'll last a long time, plus it'll drain very well. And it would be easy to unscrew the boards to get to the rest of the boat if you have to.
If you're this far, would it be worth it to spend a little more and make it last a long time? I almost figure, if you don't have to spend the money on the plywood and glass for the floor, maybe it'll cost about the same to just get the composite decking boards.
While I'm sorry this happened to you, at least people (like me) are learning a lot about used boats. Like I said, I'm shopping for a boat ( my 3rd) and I now realize how lucky I've been. Because of your videos, I know exactly what a good thump sounds like, and what a bad thump sounds like.
Again, this boat is going to be awesome when you are done.
