Frisco,
Sorry you had a bad experience in the South East. I live about 30 miles from Seneca too bad I didn't know you were in the area. I do believe that the boat was in Salt water at some point. Too much corrosion working on the out drive. I have been boat lake Hartwell for over 40 years, since I was a very small boy, and I have never seen corosion like that on a boat that young. My parents have a1988 Larson that they leave in all summer every year since new and the outdrive is not close to that level. Good luck with your project, I know from watching your Glastron restore that you will do a great job!

I have seen that kind of corrosion before in fresh water. I heard it has to do with the mineral content of your lake.

That being said, this boat still could have seen salt water.

Thanks Lip

We have had nothing but snow and freezing temperatures the past week and a half. The boat sits in the shade all the time and faces north. Temps in the 40s with a wind makes is miserable to work on the thing. I hope to get some work done this weekend.

It not just the cold weather. My company has been keeping me jumping. It is tax season, we just formed it into a corporation, and I am looking for a replacement truck. Lots of stuff on my plate for a few weeks. The truck situation may be resolved, but not quite sure yet.

Make sure you walk around on the floor of the truck first before you buy it :p

Re: Here I go again!! 1995 Sea Ray 220 Signature Deck and Stringer Restoration

Here is what I am looking at. It is a 2006 GMC Sierra 3/4 2500 4x4 Crew cab with the Duramax Allison Combo LBZ engine. I pull a large trailer every day for work, and the diesel will get better mileage pulling than the gas will. The thing only has 16,000 miles on it, so it is almost new. I have a 2006 (almost the same) Silverado and I love the style and the interior, so this is a perfect find. It is even the same color. The combination is exactly what I was looking for... fully loaded, but with the leather delete, as I am not a leather fan at all. These models are SUPER hard to find with this low of mileage, and most of them have the leather. Sooooo, the deal is done, but there was a dent on the passenger side of the bed that was left by an aggressive cow, and the dealer is fixing it for me. It was supposed to be done this weekend, but with all the cold weather, it has really slowed down the body shop, and they said it will be ready on Tuesday. That means I have to wait a bit for my new mule. I have to say though, if this was not such a nice truck, I would have walked away along time ago. The dealer is a jerk, and thinks the world is his slave. Thats cool, I just have to deal with him through the sale, and then I can use my GMC dealer for repairs (yes I am getting a extended warranty). The deal could always go south, but I have all the paper work and the financing is done.

Here are a couple of pictures of her.

Nice truck. I'm kinda partial to the Cummins, but I think GM makes a much better truck. The only reason I have my Dodge is for the Cummins. I'd love to have a Duramax. Just glad to hear you didn't go with a powerjoke!

Re: Here I go again!! 1995 Sea Ray 220 Signature Deck and Stringer Restoration

'06 was the pinnacle of GM truck styling. Can't say much for the new ones. If I get another one, it will be an '06. Don't think my wife will let me though. She wants me to trade my truck and our Grand Cherokee in on a newer hemi-Cherokee. Still on the fence on that one. I'd love to reduce the fleet but for the few times I use my truck, it sure is nice to have a truck.

Re: Here I go again!! 1995 Sea Ray 220 Signature Deck and Stringer Restoration

There was no way I was going with a powerchoke (sorry ford guys). After all the issues I read about the 6.0, I ran the other way. I actually almost bought a 2007 Doge Mega cab, but I just love my GM so much and I LOVE the styling. The dodge also beat my fillings out. I could have purchased a newer one, but I really do not like the new body style very much and all, and the interior is very uncomfortable to me. I also thing the Classic 2500 rides better. Did I mention the speed? That Duramax will flat out S@#T and get! The 2006 and 2007 Chevy/GMC classic 2500 models have the best engine and trans package before they added all the extra junk that really hurt gas mileage. That is one reason they are hard to find and so expensive.

Styling really is a matter of personal preference. I prefer my 2011 Sierra SLT to the older version. But not quite sure about this FlexFuel: at low speeds it literally "kicks in", strange feeling.

Friscoboater, really enjoy your informative videos! Thanks for the learning experience!

I picked up a Hemi powered Limited when it was 2 years old, and it was a good deal pricewise. The power of the Hemi in the relatively light (compared to the Ram truck) Grand Cherokee with 3.73 gears has to be experienced to be believed. It jumps off the line like a 69 Charger with a 426 and will pin you back in your seat. They also mostly came with the best 4x4 system out there bar non, Fulltime 2 speed automatic transfer case, and automatic front and rear locking diffs. No one else has that. It works great in snow. They are small inside, I almost bought a Dodge Dakota with the 4.7, nice truck but the Hemi Grand is in a different catagory. Four wheel drive musclecar....

Ah geez now I REALLY want one! Our 4.7 gets such crap gas mileage that we figure we may as well get a hemi and at least go really fast while suckin' down the fuel :D

I finally got some work done today. I have really been putting off the really hardcore cutting of the stringer in fear of piercing the hull. We I put on my big boy pants on today and started cutting after I finished getting the rest of the deck up around the stern. Went smoother than I thought, and I hope to get much more done tomorrow. I cant get a whole lot done until the after noon. At night it gets down in the 20s and the water logged wood freezes and it is like working on a frozen turkey.
