Re: Here I go again!! 1995 Sea Ray 220 Signature Deck and Stringer Restoration SPLASH
The biggest problem w/ an above the waterline rail would be the parts & pieces of the rail system would be under tension rather then compression while in use. Of course the swim platform would be the exact opposite: Under compression with an above rail, rather then tension w/ a bracket below. The point load of the rail would be much more focused under tension, where as having multiple attachment points spread across the width of the transom for the swim platform, those tension point loads would be much less focused.
Given the newly rebuilt transom, it should be fairly easy to mitigate the point loading of an above rail against the transom. Sufficient support of the rail thru & below the platform might be more difficult. I don't remember, did you 3M 5200 the current holes in the transom or did you over drill & fill them w/ epoxy & re-drill after cure? Shouldn't epoxy filled & over-drilled holes w/ sufficient backer plates be good w/ either above rail or below brackets?
Too bad its such a new Sea Ray, you could get KevFin from Boats in the Belfry to fab you a custom 'glass platform.
Take the winter to do all those attic wiring jobs you LOVE to do so much in mid summer in TX
Glad business picked up & stayed busy, these days we got to take it while we can get it eh? Staying busy hopefully helped w/ the seasonal grief. We lost my wife's brother unexpectedly in Oct 2010 & Thanksgiving/Christmas were tough again this year. We too know that he is an much better place & he is now with us always & everywhere. We take comfort in that, and rejoice in his memory/honor.
At least you don't have to shovel snow 4-8 times a day: Shovel before going to bed, get up & shovel before shower & work, shovel shop parking & entry at work (plow guy does the bulk of it, but between 4 & 6 am), again @ lunch, possibly again before heading home to shovel out driveway that has been ramped over by street snow plow. AND REPEAT. Fortunately its almost Jan 1st & we've yet to get much of the snow. Last year was light on snow, but it was always a very heavy, deep, wet snow w/ high wind & very low temps, so lost a lot of power lines & trees
Have a great new year & I look forward to your new addition thread..... Any chance the MRS will agree to a New England boat house theme? I'm thinking mid-century Adirondack, somewhere you'd expect to find a wood barrel back ChrisCraft.... You certainly have the attention to detail they put into those.
Maybe just post pix of the addition
behind or beside the Sea Ray.... Thanks
