WOW a boat with T tops! How gloriously 70s/80s!
Only needs all the wood replaced, but they cut the deck out for you already.

Actually...if you go back a few pages, that Scimitar has already been discussed. Its missing a few key interior parts, the trailer isn't road worthy, the gel has some issues and yes, for the condition its overpriced...its a complete rebuilder.

Scimitars are very very cool boats though!

i love how he includes a picture with the speakers, I dont think anyone looking at this boat would say "but where are the speakers for the radio"

it is however a boat that would be a great restore to watch happen. its unique enough.

Guess I missed that. Sorry for the re-post. This one shows up on CL from time to time. It was recently re-listed. I have seen it at least 3 times in the last 2 years. Price is always the same.

Re: Here I go again!! 1995 Sea Ray 220 Signature Deck and Stringer Restoration

Hey guys! Thanks for all the Christmas wishes. It has been a really tough Holiday season for me, as it is the first since Mom passed away. Luckily my business has been over the top busy since late October, and I have just jumped in head first. The bad thing is that I have not had much time for you guys, spending time making videos, and answering questions. Now that the Holidays are over, I hope to get back to things I love doing.

However, I do not think it will be a boat at this time. The wife and I talked and we are most likely going to add a room to the house to give our family more space. Now I will doing most of the work myself and video taping it, but it will not be as much fun as the boat. She has been asking for this a long time, and I think it is time.

Now that does not mean I will not doing boat stuff. I have started purchasing lots of stuff for the Sea Ray, and I have quite a bit more to aquire, and i will film all of that being installed.

Here is what I have purchased

Purchased
1. A full new set of Sea Ray Guages
2. New Stereo head unit
3. 10" Sub and amp

Going to purchase soon

1. Swim platform
2. speakers for the Wake tower
3. Get the prop "cupped" to help with bow lift
4. New Hitch coupler
5. New Winch

So as you can see I have a very expensive purchase on that list... the swimplatform. I am very nervous about this, because I have to drill two holes below the water line to support the platform. I guess I need to get over it, and just do it so the wife will get off my back about installing one.

I have shopped around, and I am not settled on a vendor just yet. Here are some pictures on a boat just like mine that has the swimplatforms.com model. The only difference is that the boat is a 1996 230 VS a 1995 220. They are the exact same boat, but since the boat is closer to 23' Sea ray renamed it in 1996 to make people think it was bigger. I am not sure that I like it not being flush. There is another company that really wants to build me a custom model for my boat, but they do not have pictures. What do you guys think?

I have heard nothing but good things from swimplatform.com. They do great work. I would rather not have the boarding ladder directly in front of the outdrive if I could. I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be off to the passenger (port) side. It would be in better line of sight for the captain and you wouldn't have to worry about missing the ladder and knocking your feet or shins on the prop.

I have heard good things also about swimplatforms, but I always like looking at all the options. I am going to email them this week to see what we are looking for price. I think they are around $1300 plus shipping.

Can I tell you guys how much I hate winter?

Hey Frsco,
Just a thought on the swim platform...I don't know squat when it comes to swim platforms, but I have a question/suggestion.

I noticed the support bars under the platform that is in the pics...can't that support be substituted for something like a railing that would serve two purposes, one being a railing to hang on to, and the other as a support system for the platform, all above the waterline...?

The custom platform builder you mentioned should be able to design something like this...

As always, Best wishes to you and yours on this Holiday season.
Gus

Jay, I'm with you on the "flush look". Its kind of like they wanted it to look integral, but didn't quite get there design wise. I would also like to have the swim ladder off to one side if it was mine. Just send me a truck load of teak and stainless, I'll whip you one out! You know how much I love polishing stainless :D You could also come up with your own design and lay it up....but it sounds like you are going to be a bit busy for that!

Teak has no place on that boat!

Hi Jay,

I had an ESP installed on the Cobalt from swimplatforms.com. I know you will love the extra real estate gained! I had the option of what side the ladder was installed. It would make a great addition on the Ray!

Peace bro-

Re: Here I go again!! 1995 Sea Ray 220 Signature Deck and Stringer Restoration SPLASH

The biggest problem w/ an above the waterline rail would be the parts & pieces of the rail system would be under tension rather then compression while in use. Of course the swim platform would be the exact opposite: Under compression with an above rail, rather then tension w/ a bracket below. The point load of the rail would be much more focused under tension, where as having multiple attachment points spread across the width of the transom for the swim platform, those tension point loads would be much less focused.

Given the newly rebuilt transom, it should be fairly easy to mitigate the point loading of an above rail against the transom. Sufficient support of the rail thru & below the platform might be more difficult. I don't remember, did you 3M 5200 the current holes in the transom or did you over drill & fill them w/ epoxy & re-drill after cure? Shouldn't epoxy filled & over-drilled holes w/ sufficient backer plates be good w/ either above rail or below brackets?

Too bad its such a new Sea Ray, you could get KevFin from Boats in the Belfry to fab you a custom 'glass platform.

Take the winter to do all those attic wiring jobs you LOVE to do so much in mid summer in TX:rolleyes: Glad business picked up & stayed busy, these days we got to take it while we can get it eh? Staying busy hopefully helped w/ the seasonal grief. We lost my wife's brother unexpectedly in Oct 2010 & Thanksgiving/Christmas were tough again this year. We too know that he is an much better place & he is now with us always & everywhere. We take comfort in that, and rejoice in his memory/honor.

At least you don't have to shovel snow 4-8 times a day: Shovel before going to bed, get up & shovel before shower & work, shovel shop parking & entry at work (plow guy does the bulk of it, but between 4 & 6 am), again @ lunch, possibly again before heading home to shovel out driveway that has been ramped over by street snow plow. AND REPEAT. Fortunately its almost Jan 1st & we've yet to get much of the snow. Last year was light on snow, but it was always a very heavy, deep, wet snow w/ high wind & very low temps, so lost a lot of power lines & trees:mad:

Have a great new year & I look forward to your new addition thread..... Any chance the MRS will agree to a New England boat house theme? I'm thinking mid-century Adirondack, somewhere you'd expect to find a wood barrel back ChrisCraft.... You certainly have the attention to detail they put into those.

Maybe just post pix of the addition behind or beside the Sea Ray.... Thanks

I'm with ezmobee on this one Jay, I think its sweet. Someone's already done all the 'heavy lifting'...if the price is agreeable, that's what I'd get.
