Re: Here I go again!! 1995 Sea Ray 220 Signature Deck and Stringer Restoration
WOW!!!!! Thanks everyone for all the positive comments. This has been a very hard road, and a very emotional one at that. Just know that I am not really "done" with her yet. There is alot of things that still need to be added or completed.\. Heck, I still have to restore the trailer. That ought to be good viewing.
We are really looking forward to this weekend and hitting the lake again. I just need to find some time to fix the little things first. We went and ordered the name and the registration numbers for the boats today, and they will be done tomorrow. Then we will actually be legal.
Awesome Jay, Congrats. Like they say, "Nothing rides like a Ray".
P.S., a little piece of foam over the mic on your camera should solve your wind-noise.
What an awesome idea. I will try that when we go out this weekend. I am going to drop the wife on an island and do some fly by passes so you can hear the corsa roar.
Boat looks real nice Jay..... I have been silently following your progress from day one. Congrats on a job well done!!!! I bought a 2004 Stingray 190 in late January of this year. Do not get to use it as much as I would like..we have put about 20 hrs on it since we bought it. I would love the Corsa but I do not know how my lol 4.3 would sound with it.
One other thing .....on the Tach not reading correctly.... On the back of it there should be a switch to set it to either 4 cyl, 6 cyl or 8 cyl. If it is not on the right setting, it will read incorrectly. Had this issue before on another boat.
Thanks for all of you info sharing and hope you an your family enjoy the boat.
I will check that out this week. I think I remember seeing that on the back of the tach.
Congrats Jay. What a phenominal job.
Hey, before you get carpet, take a hard look at seadek. It's in my plans for this year and then you wouldn't have to drill into your deck for snaps. It's not cheap, but carpet isn't either.
I like my carpet, but it traps a ton of dirt, liquid, etc. Seadek doesn't trap any of it. They cut it to your template, can put logos into it and you have colors and patterns to choose from.
I still think I am going with snap in carpet from Corinthian marine, except I will not snap it in. We will be sewing velcro onto the carpet and epoxy the other portion to the deck. it is very heavy anyway, and the velcro will just be added insurance.
Do you still remember your first line? "This is my video diary of my huge mistake". You sounded so small when you said that first line.
I didn't see a bit of disappointment in that last video!!
Wow just doesn't cover it. I don't know what it is, you have this quirky little style that makes these videos fascinating to watch. Thank you for the story despite the hardships! I probably groaned and cheered at every up and down!
After you've had some fun (hell, you deserve it after all that), think about some piloting videos. I think you'd put a cool spin on an old material.
Looking forward to the naming ceremony!!
That is so funny that you guys can read my face like that.
I was grinnin ear to ear watchin the last vid, and got goosebumps at the de-naming ceremony oddly enough
super stoked for you and yours, as ive watched along with everyone else from the dock
...... I guess as they say, the lord works in mysterious ways.... Enjoy bud!
On a seperate note, I was talking to a buddy of mine telling them your story, and without realizing it I said "a friend of mine Jay" etc. etc...... Thinking back, weve never met, but I feel like were friends... All the best Jay, you earned it.....
I consider all you guys my friends here. This is like that bait shop on the lake that all the guys hang out at. We just do not see each other.
Regaurding the tack issue. If you are set up for a 6 cylinder engine the tack expects 6 fires per rotation so at sat 3500 RPM.....
3500/6=583.33 (number of pulses the tach thinks it's getting per revolution)
583.33*8=4666.67 (number of pulses tack is actually getting per revolution)
You either need to change the setting on the tack or get a new one (IMHO).
I really need to look at that.
Congrats Jay! I'm going to be honest, I have followed this thread for awhile now, check it every night. I have to say I teared up when I saw you and your dad take off. Great moment for you and your family. Cant wait for all the cosmetic videos. Have fun, boat on, and request that this thread become a sticky because you could answer any question someone has about fixing a boat in one thread.
Enjoy the rest of the summer, YOU DESERVE IT!
It was emotional for us too. When I passed the no wake zone and powered up, I blew a kiss to the sky for Mom. I know that she sad right there by God and made sure he gave us perfect seas, and trouble free cruising with her own little "Mom" ways. You know, that little pinch under the arm to get you to behave. I know she has taken over up there.
Congrats jay. Scipper77 already mentioned what I was going to on the tack.
As for the oil pressure, you may already know this but I'll throw it out there anyway. Typically you can not use a stock automotive sending unit. You need to get a sending unit for after market gauges. They work on a different ohm scale. Most marine gauges work on the same ohm range so any marine sending unit should work.
Actually I used a marine sender. I am thinking it is a bad gauge.
Congratulations Jay that's some beautiful work and she sounds Awesome!
I ether missed it or you didn't say but what kind of Gelcoat did you use on the interior?
I used two coats of standard white unwaxed, and one coat of white waxed.
I'm sitting here watching your video with a big grin on my face. It's as if it were my boat...lol. I am truly excited for you. A lot of hard work and worry, but in the end, well, we all know. Excellent job, beautiful work, thanks for sharing this and your videos. A big Congrats from Nova Scotia, Canada.
Thank you TC. That means alot coming from you.
Congratulations on a job very well done. Knocking out that much hard work in this heat deserves a king size man card.
I need every man card I can get these days.
