Well Jay, if she floated with all the water logged wood and foam before you started, you should have no problems getting her to float now. And even if she does end up a pound or two heavier, that bbc should have no trouble at all pushing her around ;)

Or, in other words: Chill out dude!:D

Jay,

This is just an idea, but I think that I am going to use a small piece of plywood and silicon to seal the outdrive hole off and go launch my boat and check for leaks before installing the floor. I figure I will let if float for a 30 minutes or so just to be sure. This way, I know that there are no leaks in the boat. Thanks, Steven

I am confident that the boat does not leak, but that is a good idea.

I found what gets rid of the Carpet glue. M.E.K. It is super caustic, but it works.

MEK will strip about anything and dissolve just about any glue. Just nasty to work with. I would not worry about the weight, my fat ol Chaparral is really heavy for it's size and I think it just makes for a much nicer ride, and with a 305 MPI I can still get up to around 50 with the right prop on, so you should have no prob with the BB Cheby motor. I would guess you may be a few pounds heavier before but I would not think it would be that noticeable. Did you happen to weigh it before you started?

All I know is that there were a whole bunch of people that said they were really interested. Now I have some jerkoff on CL that keeps flagging my post. I have done nothing wrong, and I have only one posting up compared to the other idiots that have five and six for one boat. WTF?

maybe the person on CL is unfamiliar with it and thinks flagging is how you save a search, kinda like yahoo mail, who knows? Maybe they felt you wrote angry, LOL

I swear, when I set a goal with this boat, I can never hit it. I really wanted to have the deck cut by today, but I forgot about the Tank and ski locker false floors. I had to build and glass those today, and get the rest of the glue off. The MEK really helped alot, and then I finished the grinding. I can say, I think I am done with that awful job. The worst I will have to do now is buzz it a little with my DA when I need to add to old glass.

Jay,

Thanks for the videos, it is great following you excellent work and learning something every week. I will resume work on my boat in few days and have to say that you saved me a ton of research already. I battled the carpet glue last October, it was the last thing I did before covering her up for the winter. Out of every thing I tried, only 3M adhesive remover worked.

It this this thing http://3mcollision.com/products/adh...urpose-adhesive-cleaner-08984-1-quart-us.html

You can find it in any auto body supply store such as Wesco. Go to Home Depot and buy yourself a chemical resistant sprayer and couple of bags of #000 or #1 steel wool. Spray 3*3, let it work for few minutes and wipe down with the steel wool not a rag. A rag will simple spread the glue around. Repeat if needed and finally wipe down with rag & acetone. As I said, this was the only method that worked and I tried many many different things. I hope this will help.

My regards,

J I would have mentioned MEK but thought you would have already tried it. It is really nasty stuff but does work glad to hear your done with that stage of the resto and and can move on. I wanted to mention this the other day when I was watching the vid of you grinding the glue but didn't @ the bottom of the vid the ads flashing by cracked me up (meet nice chinesse girls). Also a thought on the floatation limber holes and drainage system if you pour it in sections bow 1st you can put a small piece of pvc through the hole and pour pull it out and progress down the deck in the same fashion until you reach the bilge just a thought!

MEK is the glue we all used to use making plastic models. sold in tubes as a gel. Good stuff.

I am a Painter and use Lacquer thinner to dissolve tough glue or paint or nasal passages... just use that respirator!

I bet you clicked that add too didn't you???????? LMAO!!!!!!!! I have seen some weird ones pop up.

I am still torn on what I want to do about the limber holes. The Old Timer here in Dallas said not to do it, and just seal it up good. The logical part of me wants to put half pool noodles and pvc through the areas I want the water to go. Not sure yet.

Mek is a solvent. It melts some plastics, thats why it is used as a glue. We used it as a cleaner for feeder bowls in a factory. Our safety rep discontinued use after several people developed kidney problems. Yes this is very wicked stuff. In liquid form is is sort of stable. In a vapor this stuff is extremely flammable

Jay, Glad to hear you sold the glasstron, sort of....feels like a member of the family is leaving after watching the restore last year! I'm glad to hear it went to a good owner.

Looks like you are making great progress, my only comment is buy a 5" air grinder next time if your compressor is big enough. One of them with a fiberglass backing plate will run circles around an electric grinder and flapper wheel. Also I have 1/2 marine plywood for my deck, with the glass and foam it is really solid.
