Jay,

I am glad to hear that your mom is doing better. The power of prayer is amazing. My 12 year old daughter is a heart patient and after 3 heart surgeries and a zillion other test, I have seen it work first hand. Looking forward to the video updates. Thanks, Steven

That is so true Steven. I am glad to hear that your daughter is doing well.

Very nice job Jay on glassing the stringers. Hope this idea helps out on the measuring and cutting on your table. To help out speed up the measuring why dont you take and mark the plywood in one inch incom on both sides of the 1708 and then all you have to do is pull the 1708 to the edge of the plywood cutting table and use you straight edge as the cutting guide. No need for the tape measure everytime you need to cut a piece of 1708.

Nice work Jay. It looks great. I imagine the hull feels rock solid now.

Do you not have a Bimini top for this boat or the tron? Last summer when I was doing this I put the top up and clipped on a mist line and 2 big fans to keep cool. Just a thought.

Now why did I not think of that?

Because your respirator cartridges were plugged and your brain cells were getting over heated (lol). I just finished your video and everything is looking great. I finally got off my butt this week and did a little grinding on mine. As for shade, do you have one of those Ez-Up shades that you could rig up over your boat? That way, you want be trapped under the boat cover with the fumes from the resin. Looking forward to the next update.

Re: Here I go again!! 1995 Sea Ray 220 Signature Deck and Stringer Restoration

I did not get as far as I wanted today, and my camera is on the fritz again. Too much fiberglass dust. All I have left to do with glassing the stringers is the ski locker. I had two really large layups today that kicked my butt!!!!!! It was hot, and I was sweating like a catho... well you know. Things just were not flowing right, and then boom, it all laid down. This 1708 is just awesome. As I was working on this layup I noticed a light spot on in the hull. I went underneath and found a chip in one of the chines. So I really layered up on the inside and I will sand down the outside and re-gelcoat that area. Great... more work.

I am going to order my foam this week and get ready to really move along over the next two weeks.

Also, it looks like I will have lots of 1708 left over. It could be wrong, but there is ALOT left, and I might even have enough to even do the deck with it.

Jay, I have a chip in my gelcoat about the size of a quarter, when you have time I will be happy to buy beer, I can get a professional to do it but I think I would rather have you do it right....

Your an inspiration to us all................. or a complete nut!!

Keep it up bud!!

Jay, glad to hear your Mom is doing better. As for the boat, nice work as usual....there is a lot of boat there, hang in there this is a marathon project for sure! I wish you had a shop like mine, life is so much easier when you aren't in the sun / weather.

.

Jay - you gotta try the Evercoat Formula 27 for the exterior filler - that stuff is awesome....So easy to use!

I wish I had a shop like yours too, but really it all comes down to time. I just don't have as much time to dedicate to the Sea Ray as I did with the glastron. Honestly this weekend was the most I've ever worked on it at any one time. I really just need to take about a week off and work on it all day, every day.

Right now I'm completely out of resin and my supplier is not expecting any until late this week. I did get my camera fixed though, so hopefully I'll be able to video more this next weekend.

Jay,
You are doing a great job, it looks beautiful. My shop isn't all that big either, it couldn't fit our boat and trailer so we put up one of those shade tents and it worked well. Actually I think someone else mentioned this idea up above in this thread. Anyway, here is a picture. I highly recommend it for keeping the direct sun off of the resin. Also, it allows for great ventilation. Heck, you might even be able to attach your camera to it with some creative use of bungee cords or something. It would be cool to watch you do the glassing work... Just a thought, you're doing great. :D

Re: Here I go again!! 1995 Sea Ray 220 Signature Deck and Stringer Restoration

Nick - I think I might go get one of those. I just have to put it up and take it down every day. My HOA will have a fit. I also think I can rig up a mount for it also. Thanks for the idea.

Steven- Thanks for asking. She has her good days and her bad days, but the good thing is that she is alert. My Dad is with her 24/7 and it trying to get her strong enough so the doctors can do another bone marrow biaposy and make sure the last t-cell treatment worked. What she has been suffering from is the effects of the treatment, and not the cancer. The cancer is technically gone, but something was really wierd with her counts about a month ago, and they have not been able to check it again due her being so ill. So that is the next hurdle.

It looks like I am going to get some time on the boat tomorrow. I need to get the stringers done and capped.

Jay, Wal-Mart has a cheap tarp that is 12x24 I think. Is there some way you can use the eyelets on the tarp and attatch one end to the top of your garage door and then stretch it out over the front of your boat and attach it to something there? Maybe you can park your truck in front of the boat and attach it to your truck. Just a thought. Thanks, Steven

Change of pans for today. I am going to pull the old Glastron out of storage and detail for retail... LOL.
