Frisco the only thing I can say is yur a good man! keep on keepin on! but it's a shame the beautiful rig was that neglected. I just don't see what th big deal is about keeping the boat covered when not in use with a tarp after spending that kinda $ on a purchase.

I really do not think you can stop this type of rot. The way the boat is built is flawed from the start, and I really think it will happen sooner or later.

Re: Here I go again!! 1995 Sea Ray 220 Signature Deck and Stringer Restoration

Yep this is the problem with most older style sportboat construction, you have a plywood cored deck and stringers, light coat of glass on top, holes drilled for seats, etc, and WORST OF ALL, CARPET TO HOLD THE MOISTURE IN....
This is why, when I re-did mine, I decided no carpet, I didn't have the time to gelcoat it myself so I had the 'glass shop do it for me, and it was good decision.

My next boat will be an all composite, fishing style boat, that is designed to be left open, not one of these high maintenance nightmares....

think about it, would you build a deck on the back of your house, out of plywood, then put a light coat of glass on it, then glue carpet to it and expect it to last....it's a wonder they last as long as they do.

Ah geez now I REALLY want one! Our 4.7 gets such crap gas mileage that we figure we may as well get a hemi and at least go really fast while suckin' down the fuel :D

Ha Ha, well I'll tell you how I decided, I took it out on the Northern State Parkway for a test drive with a friend, who likes Japanese cars and has a Toyota FJ, got on the entrance ramp and saw no traffic, floored it, he was like HOLY SH!T, I am converted to the Hemi religion.....
I grew up with musclecars, the high tech small displacement engines are nice but they don't do it for me.

WOW... I got a ton done today. The boat is about 90% gutted. I just started cutting and cutting, and now all the stringers are gone. Check out the progress pictures. I will have some a bunch a good video up later, but I have to upload it first.

I have about 3 hours left in real demo, and then I get to start grinding. Yipee!!!!!!

I cut out the rotten part of the bow boxes. I am trying not to have to remove it all.

Here is the video from Saturday. I debated on whether to post this one or not. I was really complaining in the beginning of the video, and I was feeling sorry for myself. O-well, I figured you guys need to see me in the lows too.

Sunday Video will be up later. That is where I really haul some tail.

If you can you may want to modify the stringers to accommodate a bigger ski locker area. My Chaparral has a huge ski locker opening, maybe 24" wide by at least 36" tall that works great when you want to stow knee boards or wake boards. These toys were not popular when the boat was built so it is pretty typical to have a somewhat narrow floor locker for this stuff but since you are starting from scratch anyway on the floor it might be easy to modify.

I thought about that, but is is pretty big as it is. Plus I would only be able to make it 4 inches bigger before I hit the strake.

Here is the video from today. Lots of action shots on me cutting out the stringers. My 8 year old daughter did alot of the filming, and she does not quite grasp the idea of holding the camera still. She is learning

A cat pissed in your boat? I can't hardly stomach that stink... I had one get in my boat:mad:.. That was the end of the feral cats around my house.. I think some old lady was feeding em near my house.. Live trap and cat food seals their doom.. Animal control will come pick em up for free

Well Jay, it did not take you long to pass me up. As for the cats, they gotta go. Get you a live trap and carry the cats to the other side of a major freeway. There chances of getting back alive are pretty slim. All of the cats that I have caught and called animal control to come get have returned. You have to haul them off yourself. Keep up the videos. I will be referring to them some day. Thanks, Steven

LOL!!!! Noooo, a cat did not get in the boat, it just smells like it. When mildew gets real bad it smells like cat ****. Trust me there are no cats around this house.... He He. I just picked up my (New to me) truck and I will post a trip video and pictures soon. Thanks god it turned out to be super nice and did not turn out like the boat did.
