I see. They look somewhat dangerous... Good idea though.

No kill switch lanyard or life preservers in the demo pics, so it must be safe. But isn't one of the advantages of a real "jet" ski the fact that there is no exposed spinning prop to mess you up when the riders are inevitably thrown off??? I'll pass.

1984 BAYLINER 20' 4" CAPRI SERIES 2150 CUDDY
This one is right in my area.
Boat looks nice but I think the owner may need some TLC if he thinks that is a realistic price!!

Nada prices it out at around $ 2,400 value.

If the posting disappears here is the text:

Most of the time NADA prices are way off,,, one of the few times it is only slightly high. Usually their prices are low, often very low.

Might be that they are off. But I am sure they are not a factor 6 off.
A quick search for used boats shows that they sell for $ 3,000 to $ 4,500 dependent on condition and location.
So in either case the $ 14k asking price is way out of line.

I often wonder how many of these overpriced boats like this one are a result of the wife saying "you better get that thing out of my driveway!"
"FINE, I'll list it for sale right now....there HAPPY?!"

Absolutely agree with that Brian, after all who would think someone is dumb enough to snap up such a deal like. 14k for a 30 year old Bayliner that's most surely rotten to the core.

Re: Funny "TLC needed" boat ads on Craigslist.

I answered an ad with a crazy price a year ago assuming that the guy had added a few extra zeros.
It was close so I called and went to see it. The boat was a 20 year old aluminum bass boat which the guy had listed on CL for $14000. When I looked the boat over, it was nothing more than a project hull with a newer trailer. The motor was seized, the carpet shot, the foam water logged, and the trailer tires were dry rotted, plus the trailer coupler was crushed and would no longer fit over the ball.
I figured if the boat was mint, even minus a motor it would be worth $1750 at best, but it needed everything. When I pointed out all the issues, then asked what his best price was, he simply told me he was asking $14,000, but would take an offer. Figuring he had just wasted my time, I said I couldn't go more than $200 on a boat that rough, he replied right away and said he couldn't take $200 but would do $400. We met in the middle then at $300 and I left with the boat.
He had no clue what it was or what it was worth. He also apparently had no clue about marketing anything. He most likely picked it up as scrap somewhere and had no clue what to ask for it so he shot for the moon. He even made the comment after I had chained up the tongue to my truck that several others had looked at it but didn't make any offers. Before I left I asked if he had any other boat items and he showed me a 14' jon boat for which I gave him $10, and a minty clean late 70's 50hp motor which he sold to me for $25.
I removed the foam, fixed the the trailer and hung the 50hp motor and sold the boat as-is for $2250 a week later.

The whole deal just showed that it never hurts to make a real offer, the worst thing that can happen is the seller won't deal.
I've also run into sellers who think that because a boat is 25 years old its worth more than when it was new regardless of its condition.
Some also seem to think aluminum is worth as much as silver or gold.

It's a Mercury Force so he's not totally wrong.. Not a bad price if it's a solid running boat

US Marine began building Force motors in the 80s. They were produced by Chrysler in WI. Mercury off label was Mariner. Many Mariner motors to 60 hp were built by Yamaha though.

Re: Funny "TLC needed" boat ads on Craigslist.

In the early 1990's Mercury started making the Force motors and they got Merc lower units, controls and ignition, by the mid 1990's they were clearly marked " Force By Mercury Marine ".. If you look in this pic, you can see " By Mercury Marine " 01313_3LbiHApHMwu_600x450.jpg

Mercury and Force were both owned by US Marine/ Brunswick, so I really don't think Mercury had a financial investment into the Force name/OB other than they were told to build them.
