Apparently the engine drive is happy to be mislabelled? "Mericruiser" is what he typed. In this guy's defense, it could have a Mercruiser engine that was rebuilt in 2008?
He also doesn't know what trailers are worth, either!

Lol, I missed that misspelling.. Engine could have been replaced with a Merc engine I guess.

Re: Funny "TLC needed" boat ads on Craigslist.

Before retiring, I owned a chandlery with enough parking space to sell about 3 boats at a time. Someone would come by with one they wanted me to sell. It frequently was "pig" not always.
They would say "All it needs is a clean up and polish! A buyer can see right through that" I would surpress a really nast temptation to be very blunt, and reply.
"If you want it on my lot, you will need to clean it up, and then we can talk about the storage cost of your overpriced boat ".

There is a certain catagory of people who think that whatever they have is a jewel, even if it is totally unsaleable in its condition. I would tell them that if it will sell in nice looking condition, they need to get it in that condition; do not expect a buyer, particularly his wife to visuallize a pristine yacht while looking at your pig.

I haven't seen any recently but I like the ads that state it takes on water, but they have a good bilge pump.

This one would be fairly mundane except for the electronics package.... could be VERY distracting if used underway
And when is it generally accepted to use the player while you're 'barge'in' with family or friends.....

Why do people feel compelled to tell you in their ad how much they "could" get if they "parted it out?" They're (a) lying, (b) too lazy to actually do it, and (c) driving away any potential reasonable offers. This is similar to the "I'd rather just have it sit than sell it for less than my firm price." This may not even be a bad deal (I have no idea), but I'm really turned off by the defensive tone before you even contact the person. 150hp Johnson outboard motor $800 or BO

Of course, CL occasionally has some actual gems, like this one: Large Cheap Aluminum Lake Boat

...

My response to that is always, "then part it out, because it's not worth what you're asking for it."

That's a real heart-breaker.:(

Breaks my heart for two reasons... One because I feel horrible for the guy and two because I can't get up there and haul that thing back!

Getting a lot of use out of this these days:

And for an entirely different reason, I feel the same seeing & hearing about all the stories similar to this:
not funny.....but a sign of the times.... I wonder how many boats are sitting at the bottom of their moorings: Raise her and u keep her 1969 43'Ehh w/ 6-71detroit

Makes me wanna hurl:
