Here's a peculiar find; not necessarily a bad deal.

I had to post the pics and writeup on this one for those who come across this thread after the Craigslist thread is outdated.

For sale is my hand-made DeLorean time machine replica raft. I built this craft in the spring of 2012 for the Chestertown Raft Race. It received an award for being "most likely to create a spectacle" after it finished the race just short of the top prize.

The raft was imagined as a 1:1 scale model of a DeLorean, although certain factors forced minor design alterations. In most cases, it is within inches of the real thing and is instantly recognizable. It includes a BTTF film accurate "OUTATIME" California license plate.

It is constructed with a wooden frame around a sealed fiberglass truck cap and skinned with insulation foam board. It is painted inside and out, with exterior details. The craft is propelled by 4-6 crew members with paddles. The paddles are not mine to sell and not included with this listing. All 6 passengers use built-in bench seating with beverage holders. A self-centering, removable rudder provides additional control. A handy owner could modify the rudder well to support a small outboard engine. I have a large collection of pictures documenting the build if a serious purchaser is interested.

The raft comes with a built-in dry ice fog machine playing the part of the flux capacitor/nuclear reactor. The fog is created in a Styrofoam cooler and piped out the reactor vents. The raft is stored on a wooden cradle. This cradle is included with the raft, but I won't require you to take it. The car can sit on the ground without the rudder installed.

Unfortunately, the car does not have gull wing doors. The requirement of flotation would have forced them to be half-size, making the replica look odd. After lengthy deliberation and consideration of structural concerns, they were omitted.
The raft was designed to carry the weight of 6 people (~1000 pounds). What this means: you will need to have weight in the raft to make it look as intended on the water.

Understand this is a used item. It is no longer aesthetically perfect as it was before a hotly contested race through the Chester River, but still is in very good shape and remains seaworthy. The paint is worn in a few places. Small dings in the foam and other minor race damage is present. It's not unsightly; I just want to be upfront about the used condition of this raft. Never fear, most of the wear gives it a "time travelled" look.

In all honesty, I don't really want to sell this raft, but I have a space issue and cannot store it properly for the winter. It has been tarped since the build began. I put more than a four months' worth of spare time into its conception, design and construction. I do consider it a work of art but am only asking for the cost of the materials that went into the project. If someone can continue enjoying this craft, the time to create it was well spent.

Hmmm..."no registration (assuming title) for boat or trailer....AND I'm missing the keys. Buyer must meet me at dark and not ask too many questions. If the neighbor sees you on the water and says this is HIS boat, just ignore him."

Here's 1 I considered for the motor, but then figured it would be a waste of time

http://binghamton.craigslist.org/boa/3226891275.html

I picked up a 1980 50 hp just like that one out of an aluminum scrap pile at my welders... i gave him $100 for the motor and controls...

he didnt know anything about it...he cut it off a boat he scraped...and was going to sell it for aluminum.

took it home and it had 140 psi in both holes...ran great..i installed a new thermostat and sold it for $500

short shaft motor....desireable for many older runabouts....that want more than 25 and 30 hp..which is easy to find short shafts in...

well unless you were in need of an outdrive and this one is any good im not sure free is even a deal.

1973 19 ft. bayliner boat and trailer. interior removed 302 short block with outboard, not running. Boat has title trailer does not. Motor is junk upper end missing, outboard was operational. Boat is completely stripped out from glass to seats to trim. Good hunting boat?

Rant:

Why do people who are trying to sell a boat, insist on not using marine terminology? I really wonder about the intelligence of a person who can afford a boat, but cannot afford the luxury of educating himself on the vocabulary.

You guys know what I'm referring to...

"This blah-blah boat has a bathroom, kitchen and two bedrooms." Or, "this boat has solid floors." Or my personal favorite; the runabouts advertised as having "leather" seats. Yeah, right! How long would leather last on an open deck boat? Sheesh!

This is the most recent ad that brought about my rant. It's for a yacht. Now, I don't know 'bout y'all, but I would be downright ashamed to tell my buddies or co-workers that I own a "yacht", then have them arrive at the marina to see this millionaires vessel ready for boarding!

Rant over!

If you read carefully you'll notice it's not a yacht, it's a "Yatch ".

All I saw was the word "Bayliner" come up as I clicked the link, and I started laughing!
