Looks like you have all kinds of critters calling the boat home! I think you will be happy that you pulled the cap. I spent hours up under Miss Morgans bow, not the funest thing to do....nice progress, you should have her cleaned out pretty quick, then the fun part!

Yep, I think pulling the cap will be the best thing for sure. I am just worried about keeping the hull in shape.

With the cradle you have built, it should support the hull and help keep it in shape. I would get my measurements at the cap and make a removeable brace across the hull. Make 3 to 4 of them and remove the one in your work area and replace it as you move up the hull.
Great vids and pics. Your work is always awesome.

I just scribed 2x10's to the sides and braced it to my trailer. You could brace something similar to that slick cradle you made. It would make it MUCH easier to work on the inside. As long as the bottom is properly supported, the small Glastrons shouldnt need too much bracing, as you will probably discover.

Making progress

You can see the top part of the stringer is good, but the bottom is rotten.

Back half of the boat is devoid of stringers

Well I got the cap off today, and to my surprise, the hull did not lose its shape at all. All the measurements are the same as when I started. I will have pictures and video later tonight.

I never had any issue with the hull losing shape. It would spread a bit. I always wrap a strap around it, just in case. Looks great so far though.

Just monitor it over time Jay. You can also throw a few ratched straps on it when your not working on it. I didn't brace mine at all, all I did was before I put the deck back in, i put the cap back on then glassed in the deck.

J do you think a hinged section of fence @ the end of your driveway connected to your fence corner post would keep the nosey nieghbor from seing your boat buisness? Anyway nice demo work and glad to hear about the power package deal.

If you use nylon straps on it now, it will maintain it's shape during the rebuild and they don't get in the way TOO much!!!

I think that is a squirrel skull. Kitty cats, termites and rodents. If you hear any rattling, back off Frisco.

Since this boat is a mid-80s go-fast boat, it needs a good, nasty, hair-band, heavy metal name: May I suggest, "Vermin's Lair" in honor of the gnarly critters...

Sorry, I got into the egg nog a bit tonight - carry on...
