Perhaps we should have attacked them instead of Iraq. Certain Iraq was not advancing. We had them in a box--and even if they had WMD's, they had no way of delivering them. Even Israel, their close neighbor, was not fearful of Saddam.<br /><br />It is nice to say these things to get everyone stirred up--That they have no basis in fact is apparently of no consequence.<br /><br />As far as my low morals, I don't know about that but I know I would not have lied to the American people about why we were getting into a war. I would not have lied about an Iraq nuclear threat in a State of the Union address. I would not have lied about connections between AlQaida and Saddam and Saddam's involvement in 9/11, which was disputed by the CIA and others long before we ever entered the war...<br /><br />Lest you join the other apologists of Bush, and suggest he never really said that there was an involvement in 9/11, may I remind you:<br /><br />On March 19, 2003, the day we invaded a country that was no threat to us, G.W. Bush sent a letter to Congress in which he stated that the war was permitted under legislation authorizing force against those who "planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001." <br /><br />So while my morals are my morals, and work for me, they are clearly higher than the current occupant of the White House.<br /><br />I have no idea what this war was about, but it was not about the stated purpose, and it certainly has not made Americans safer from terrorism. <br /><br />Clearly there was no evident threat from Saddam. I have often heard that we needed to keep these weapons out of the hands of terrorists, but then that argument makes no sense. first off, they don't need to get them from Iraq, anyway--there are lots of other places to get them.<br /><br />Second, if we were that serious about this, we would have sent enough troops in to stop the looting, seal the borders, and guard the various weapons caches--but we clearly did not view that as important.<br /><br />Perhaps that part was not a lie--perhaps it was simple incompetence--it's hard to tell.<br /><br />Anyway, I am comfortable with my morals. <br /><br />My question is how can you be comfortable with yours?
