Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

Hey yall,, I know this is a lake Mead thread, but im too excited and cant wait to mention this.. I am FINALLY going to be able to launch "motor boater" (small boat u guys haven't seen yet) this morning at willow beach for its first actual test run. I mean actual because of the incident I experienced last attempt (bad starter brushes) http://forums.iboats.com/mercury-mariner-outboards/1982-40-hp-mercury-ob-wont-start-619132.html which left me stuck at the launch ramp.

I packed up all the fishing gear and im getting in the truck now to start the drive with my little girl.. Wish me luck... WHOO HOOOO!!!!!

Lol, wish I did catch one of those stripers. But the day was just for a trial run and to take my daughter fishing for the first time before she starts 1st grade in a couple Weeks...

Trial run went GREAT! boat was good, outboard ran great, and the fishing.... My daughter caught 2 trouts and was completely stoked and happy about it. She cant wait to go back (AWESOME).

Hmmmm. Common if there is nothing in the dialog box, so maybe it "thinks" it is empty. If it continues, post over in the Site issues section: iboats Forum and Website Issues

yes, but I haven't posted pictures yet because I'm approximately 90 percent finished with the restoration. it has definitely come a long way from what it was when I first bought it. Once it is complete I will post tons of pics on the restoration thread. I will post a link to the thread here when I do.

Good to see you made it down to Willow mb. Did you guys head up river towards the dam? Lots of cool things to see up there, cold water though. I usually go to Willow, or from there down onto Mohave.

U know, I really wanted to but we didn't.
I did take my daughter to see the mining equipment up river, but then we turned around afterwards. Didnt want to take a chance on the trial run, with only my daughter. Next, time I go with another adult I will though. Ive always wanted to head up as close to the dam area as possible. I hear theres big fish up there. Has anyone ever gone up river that far? What was the ride like if so, and do you think lil motor boater can make it up there ok with the 40 HP mercury shes got on her? I heard theres areas with fast moving water

You could make it up there with a 10 horse tinny. Go for it. You can go as close as my Avatar ;)

MB- I took my last boat that had a 40 hp on it all the way up..Its a great trip..There was some current later in the day and I stopped in one spot and really started drifting pretty fast down river..Most of the trip was calm..

I've wanted to put in at Willow Beach and run up & down the river but thought that my boat had too deep of a draft. Does the channel have decent depth even with low release levels?

I was just informed by a friend that 2 or 3 of us boaters will be at Temple Bar on Labor day weekend. I would have never planned the trip but this stick in the mud was told to be there or be L7. I was even offered the use of a new portable AC unit if I show up. Slip rental reservation tomorrow.

I took a 14 alum boat up to the dam from willow and it was great, was a little further than i thought though and there was some shallow water areas under 6ft deep.I had a 15hp and it was plenty of power,it seemed slower going back down for some reason.

I had a little 11' Coleman Crawdad (plastic boat) that I used on the river, and a 5HP outboard would make it from Willow to the Dam in 1/2 hour. The water can get a little squirrely around Ringbolt Rapids if the river is running, but it's not bad, just stick to the west (deep) side. Around MM 56 (55, 57??? don't remember the MM) there is a big gravel bar that comes out into the river pretty far and you need to hang to the east side of the river. Everywhere else, I just blast up the middle of the river.

They used to plant trout at the base of the dam, but now with Mead and Mohave not being stocked, I don't think they stock at the dam anymore. I've caught stripers up there, casting and drifting with the current, but I haven't had much luck up there.

Check the USBR website for Lake Mohave's lake level. If it's high (like it was last time I was down there a couple weeks ago) you wouldn't have problems getting up to the dam. The river level can vary 2-3 feet day-night and 10-20 feet from summer to the winter draw-down. Just be cautious of the washes that dump gravel bars out into the river, as I mentioned in the post above.
