Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada
Hi Fellow meaders!
I'm a newbie here, this was our first season boating. We got our boat this may and have been out about a dozen times. I wanted to go so bad this weekend, but the weather report was showing thunderstorms. Every time I look out the window it's sunny! it's killing me! but after last weekend, I don't want to chance it.
Last weekend we went out early despite a bad weather report. It was like glass when we got there. For the first time we got the boat up to full speed. We found a nice beach to hand out, and around 11am some bad weather came rolling in. It changed so fast, I've never experienced anything like that! I think my boating skills improved 1000% that day. We packed up quick and got out of there. There were huge swells, water crashing into the boat, smacking me in the face, in the eyes. My adrenaline was pumping, my wife next to me saying "you got this, you got this" Kids and dog in the back all hunkered down, praying. Yeah, I was praying too. It was scary, but my family was counting on me, so I had to stay calm and just go for it. I stood up and started timing the waves instead of trying to fight them. I would give it some gas, reach the top of the swell, and throttle back to give me time to make the next move. I started closing my eyes just before the water would hit me in the face, so I would have a few more seconds of sight. We fought our way back to calville. Once we entered the no wake zone, things calmed way down. We could breathe. The kids were glued to their seats in the back. My boy was ok, he set the dog down and started getting ready to dock. But my daughter was in a state of shock. She started balling, she was so scared.
Well, I thought I better not risk it this weekend, but looking outside and seeing the sun shining, knowing I only have a few more lake weekends left, is killing me.
Did you guys have a good time out there? How was the weather?
