Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

Well, I think this weekend is going to be my first trip to the lake this summer....

Family vacations done... Check!
Medical things taken care of... Check!
New "Fishing Platform" for boat completed... Check!

I bought a tube for the kiddies and not letting them know about it until we are on the water and ready to bust it out :D

Well see how the tube goes, then hopefully some ski's next year...

Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

I was just informed by a friend that 2 or 3 of us boaters will be at Temple Bar on Labor day weekend. I would have never planned the trip but this stick in the mud was told to be there or be L7. I was even offered the use of a new portable AC unit if I show up. Slip rental reservation tomorrow.

Hate to quote myself but thankfully, the RV rental spaces were already booked and we are not going out on a Holiday weekend. We will wait a few weeks until the weather is nicer and all of the summer boaters have kids back in school. :)

September and October are (can be) perfect out there. :)

While Mead, with no warning, can be magical at any time, you are prolly right :)

Keep going as what you show has happened for me a lot, and especially when you least expect it. The trick to Mead, for me, is enjoying all weather conditions. The perfect and the crazy. Love it !!

Lake mead is awesome no matter the weather, football is almost here, so if the weather gets cappy just chill at the marina and watch games and play pool at calville,or relax at campground with shaded trees and grass abound.Theres no better place to be than calville during crappy weather, with hiking starting points all around campground areas and even bike paths that lead you to places where flashlights seem almost useless at night.

This is the ticket right here. I've also been out @ Mead where the weather has been perfect and the water calm many many times.
I've also come to enjoy the other end of the spectrum, the high winds, the big waves.. We anchor in a cove, or pull up on a beach..whatever. Always good times to be had!

Nice pictures h2odick! Did they have a hard time getting up on that walkway? my heart would have been beating hecka fast walking across that old thing.

I'm one of those guys, and no it wasn't too hard. My heart was pounding getting way out on that thing though.. a little nerve racking :)

I have been all the way to the dam at very low water (December Morning). It gets very tricky around gold strike hot springs and the area where the palm trees are. Water was just barely deeper than my prop. I estimate the flow at around 1.5k. The water goes up or down very quickly up there. I watched it rise 6 vertical feet in one hour. From flows of 1.5k to 29k.
I looked for fish in the very clear water and only saw suckers and carp. I wish they would stock trout at the dam. That might attract the stripers up there. I have never seen a striper from ringbolt on up where it is easy to see all the way to the bottom.
I have seen the USFW shocking the water around ringbolt. Be interesting to find out what floated to the surface. My guess is just suckers and carp.

Hmm, good to hear. I havent seen much online about much fish up at the damn either. Guess I wont be doing much fishing up there. But I'm still going to be making the trip up river, hopefully this Friday.

oh hey guys, totally off subject. Can anyone comment on this? http://forums.iboats.com/mercury-ma...-well-1982-40-hp-mercury-outboard-624550.html

Also I will take some pics while I'm up there, and will look for that little wooden walkway. Is that close to the dam? Or is that the one by the hatchery?

20 years of heavy snow in the Western Rockies would be great, but this is OK for now.

Same here! We made it out last weekend for the first Mead trip of the year, had a good time. Storms were threatening, but they left us alone. Nice cool day with cloud cover and the lake was like a ghost town, only saw a hand full of boats up at Echo.

Side note for all: The dock at Echo Bay's main launch ramp dock was moved over to the low water launch ramp. You have to drive down a long dusty dirt road to get to the low water launch ramp, so if you don't want your boat getting dusty drive slooooow. There were 2 truck/trailers at the main ramp, so it is possible to launch there if you have the crew to do so,,, I didn't since I was with the kiddies and there wasn't a good place to beach the boat by the ramp.

Well we went out at 5:30 and it was all cloudy with a slight chop..Ran up into Vegas wash and looked around a bit but saw very little sign of fish or birds..Came back just passed Sand Island and the rain started...Got soaked...Rain stopped and we found some boils and caught and released a few stripers...Rain poured on us again...This went on for a while and we headed in around 10:00..soaking wet..ha ha still it was a fun morning with my son...Have a safe weekend....

no whiners,, glad you had a good time and safe one too with weather,i was wondering a few things--about six yrs ago me and my brother set up a rock formation in front of govermentwash consisting of twelve big rocks.they were probally about 5ft tall when finished visible from boat location. If anyone has seen these i will tell of the reason behind its creation. My other question is how long does it take you to get to mead? I know that these rocks still are there by recent you tube videos and there have been newly added things also but im looking for a first hand account to verify.thanks

Wow, some big rocks..I will look for them next time I go out. I have a home in Henderson near Eastern and St. Rose I use once a month for a week. From there the lake is about 1/2 hour to the ramp. Not sure about going out this week end with crowds and stormy weather..

Thanks for the fishing report NW. I wasn't going out this weekend due to the crowds either, but it's fishy weather, so I might be heading out... (wish me luck )

My guess... There's Druid blood that runs in the family and you guys were trying to build Stone Henge West! (close? :joyous:)
