Re: Boat Names

Two names. My wife calls my 1959 Dorsett Catalina The Mistress. It still gets a lot of second looks.

I'm also part of a volunteer SAR group, and we were called down to Neew Orleans after Katrina to ferry people out. One of the boat drivers had a little problem navigating over mailboxes and cars, and ended up knocking out a picture window of a flooded house. That boat is now known as Housebreaker.

Re: Boat Names

My first boat is a hand made (my father in law and I) 13' dingy 4 years ago completed and my second boat which i just bought in July is a 1988 17' maxum. I have two daughters, the older ones name is Vivian Sage and the younger ones name is Naomi Bella, so naturally I named the first boat

"BellaSage" and the maxum "BellaSage II"

Re: Boat Names

My sister in law said I should name my last boat "Wet Dream" now I have an old Starcraft, At this point I'm thinking "Nightmare" ...Just kidding:)

I sorta broke up the family boating thing, but there were 3 siblings all with houseboats in my marina (I bought one of the houseboats). I have 'The B.U.B. (Big Ugly Boat), then there's 'The Beast' (20,000lb steel houseboat) (just as ugly), and the third WAS 'Wet Dream'. That couple has young kids though, and didn't want to have to answer that question, so they peeled the T off so now its 'We Dream'.

Re: Boat Names

Nope.

They use their boats as toys, and just do whats needed to keep them afloat. Wet Dream became We Dream when it was purchased, and The Beast became The Beast the first time it was motored out to its slip. Someone on their boat saw it go by and exclaimed 'Look at that beast!', and at that point it was renamed.

I see no signs of any previous name besides 'The B.U.B' for my boat, its got a faded decal on the side leading me to believe it started its life as a rental housboat. Probably had no name, although it has a mailbox lettering sized '3' on the front of the cabin. For now, it will stay the Big Ugly Boat, because it is, but once I put a little class into her, I'll go thru the de-naming and naming ceremonies.

BTW, The Beast runs entirely on batteries. No working alternators onboard. Just 6-8 automotive batteries that can keep it powered for 2 days before he needs to recharge to keep the engines running!

Re: Boat Names

I was looking at names for my 16 ft Tuffy online and had just bought a 200HP Merc EFI for it (boats rated for an 80HP) so I had alot of work to do to reinforce it and figured it was a good opportunity to re-paint and name it at the same time.

I came across one that made me laugh, so I called out to the wife that I found the name for our slightly overpowered fishing boat and told her this was going to be the name;

She's Only 16

Her response; "your a dumbass!".

The little light went off in my head...consequently she has been christened;

Dum Bass

Re: Boat Names

I named my Reinell cabin cruiser Brandy II

The first Brandy was a Ranger my dad had. I tipped over his brandy and coke on it while we were putzing around, so he told me I had to christen it. I figured brandy would be fitting since thats what spilled on it.

I christened Brandy II with brandy as well. :)

Re: Boat Names

My wife was in Seatle watching a BAB leave the harbor with the name
"WHITE TRASH". Since we are in the garbage business I thought it appropriate to name our 21" Chaparral "WHITE TRASH". I hae a buddy w/ a little cuddy named "SHIP FACED".

Re: Boat Names

Thought it was bad luck to change a boat name so I kept the name my boat had on it SEA MONKEY .
In my mind only a few truely cool names come to mind :

Dale Earnhardt Sr ........... Sunday Money
Carl Capola ................... Capone

Do not know if this is the same deal or not but on the river leading to the coast I have seen:

Divorce .........................On about a 17 or 18 foot Bayliner (man at the helm)
One Divorce ...................On a 30 plus foot Grady White (good looking woman at the helm)

BTW .. Obsession or a form there of is the most popular boat name .

"Never Again IV"

Two boat names that make people mad that I've seen:
An orthodontist's sailboat named "Braces"
A builder's fishing yacht named "First Draw"
