Bayliner Capri 2150 resurrection.

Out with the old Spectrum and in with the older Bayliner. We are gonna need a bigger boat.

I've put the old Spectrum that I bracket swapped from the OMC Cobra TKO to a Mercury 115hp 2 stroke outboard.

A few years ago I purchased a 85 Bayliner Capri 2150 cuddy with hopes of getting it up and running pretty quick. One thing lead to another and here it's sat waiting for the work to begin again. This boat has a Volvo 280 drive in it currently I am however thinking of removing that setup and building another engine bracket and hanging a set of 90hp outboards back there.

One thing I'm wondering about going forward is having storage below deck like say for fish that are caught. Is there a source for a tank as such? The boat is very deep and could afford to have a storage compartment like that built in.

Changing an I/O to OB has been done many times and can be done for yours if you have the finds and skill to do. Like most mods it usually cheaper to just buy what you want.

Yeah I built the bracket for the spectrum it worked great, made it a much better boat. The things I learn on that will apply to the new setup with refinement of course.

if not mistaken that is the same hull as a 2159 trophy , mine was a 1989/90 the stringers were very well made and they had holes at the bottom of stringers periodically to let the water if any drip out , i went and cut mine out because transom needed rebuilt and realised the only moisture after 30 years and a sinking was the bottom 1/8th inch and they weren't rotten lol, only mistake i felt i made was using a poly tank with a cabin periodically i will get a faint gas smell , other then that if you decide to put a bracket plan on rebuilding your transom as they only really had a thickened transom in middle where the i/o passed thru the rest of transom will not support a bracket without mods.

I agree the center would need to be knocked out and a full width be assembled and put in.

So yesterday I sold my beloved 90 Spectrum to fund some new stuff for this year. Mainly a bigger boat. I've been racking my brain for a while now on how best to move forward on the Bayshaker and it just now hit me.

I want this on that boat. I want the raised floor plan of Side job and a hardtop like Striper. We have the 1st deck in already but that all may need to be scrapped to make the deck work right.

I think I want to raise the deck to the level of the 1st step in the seat riser. Then add the flip down seating like Side Job has. I'm not hung up on power at this point although I am a big fan of outboards. The Volvo was still a running motor setup though its been sitting a while.

A nice big flat fighting area in the back and plenty of storage under that deck and a nice big insulated fish box. I think there will be plenty of depth still just not chest height..

Not a fan of under deck storage.

I have yet to see an under floor storage compartment that didn't leak, turning them and the bilge, into a terrarium/science project sooner than later.

Make sure you put a screen on the drain line of that fish box if it doesn't drain directly overboard.

Yeah I was trying to see if there were prefab poly tanks that I could just drop in similar to a fresh or waste tank but with a open top and a lip. It looks like I may be forced to build one instead.

Well we got it home today it's been sitting for a couple - few years in storage. I pulled the engine through by hand just checking. We ran the engine after buying it then mothballed it again. It's a volvo 5.0 with a 280 outdrive. The pictures look a dirty but the deck was new right after purchase it'll need a good scrubbing.

I am going to build a 63" raised deck for the forward portion of the cockpit then add a step down and leave the remaining 72" of deck at the lower level.

I would like to find a nice (used preferably) leaning post for the helm then build a convertable lounge for the port side

1 1/2"tubing came in today for me to fab the hard top and swim deck/ jetski carrier. I was slightly concerned about putting a 90 in this pipe, but it bent great. There is a bit of waveiness in the inside of the 90 but I think it'll be just fine for this boat. I welded some smaller tubing back in the summer for a few projects of mine and they all turned out good. The ambulance has a overhead rack for the generator, The bike is a pannier mount for motorcycle adventuring, and I built a surf fishing cart.

This will be what I'm working towards. I think perhaps I may want a spotting tower up top aswell. The rocket launcher mount on the aft section is gonna be raised in the center to keep. From knocking heads on the pass to the stern because of the 2 level deck going into this boat.

Today saw some productive work. Don't kid your self about the strength of that tube trying to remove just the slightest degree out of that tube was impossible even bouncing on it with the bend down and the other end under the ambulance.

These are just mocked in position just to understand how is gonna fit there's extra material on both ends for adjustment.

It's cold can't wait to get this thing erected to allow a gigantic tarp to drape over for a better climate.

hey i meant to ask how big was spectrum and how did it act with a bracket? i was going to bracket my 17 footer but everyone said it wasn't wise of course a aquasport dont seem to be as wide as those.

It was a 19' with about a 80" beam.
It came on plane better at a lower speed.
The transom was approximately 2" higher in the water.
My speed increased to 40 with a couple adults and me on the boat. Max before was 36 on the OMC 2.3 TKO.
Handing was good, throwing a tube around was not any harder than any other boat though I could've stood to have hydraulic steering, over cable.
I did have trouble with the engine height I had to add a 5" extension because the power head was to low and was sucking water into the bottom cylinder and causing issues (I think)

It's been a bit. I'm still making way, but slowly. We had the motor up and running this week had to order a new fuel pump and trim motor, carb will need a rebuild too.

This is a Volvo AQ225D with a 280 outdrive.

As slow as I am at fiberglass work is a good thing I'm not getting paid.

The magnets on the lift motor aren't as permanent as they should be.

Yesterday while looking for parts to bring the Volvo 280 drive in the boat up to spec (bellows, flywheel bearings, & so forth) I found that there was a version of the 280 outdrive that had hydraulic trim. I'm thinking I may try and seek out that transom bracket and update this drive a bit. A 290 came on the radar, but the transom opening would need to be reworked and I'd rather not go that route though the whole boat comes with it. I'm not searching for speed just a good solid outdrive and keep the boat simple and affordable. Just like my other boats eventually they'll end up being someone else's after a couple good years of use.
