Thanks guys. We're underway! Seat bases almost finished - the wife and I worked the last 2 days, learning to glass together - awesome! Will see if we can do the last of the seats after she gets home from work tomorrow

We havn't got into the hull yet, but first job for me in the morning is to pb the transom into place, and hope i can keep up a solid pace thru the week till the deck is ready to go down.

fairly happy with how the csm laid down, and it was great experience for us to learn on all those angles and edges before attacking the critical stuff

From the pics your work looks very good, much better than 99% of production boats.

Transom sanded again, then wiped with acetone, and coated with resin before having a layer of csm pasted on the back. 2 pots of pb and spread with a notched trowel, clamps already in place with the all thread rods, and a very nervous 5 mins of spreading and setting up before a very smooth installation. Tightened up the nuts gradually and cleaned up all the ooze from the big hole in the middle. Yeeha, next big waypoint achieved. :horn:

Thanks guys! Im pretty chuffed with the progress so far. just finished the pb fillet around the transom, and finished glassing the sole that sits under the fuel tank, and the small 1 at the stern. Each time i have leftover resin i do little bits on the seat bases, nearly done there as well.

Im planning on carpeting the seat bases anyway, so can i leave em unwaxed? or do i need a waxed resin coating, or even flow coat, first? or can i stick em out in the sun to crisp off a little?

I would just coat them with glue and go for it,if you paint them you might get adhesion problems where as you know its sticky atm it would only help glue bond imho :)

True mick, but carpet only covers the broadsides (cool nautical pun there :hat:) will the other bits, insides etc stay tacky? or set off eventually...

Cheers, its slow progress - im sure it could be done quicker, but why bother unless its done right hey.

Really enjoying the work tho, very sculptural and satisfying... er then again maybe its the fumes that make the days go so fast and the work progress so slow!

Will take more pix tomoz when it looks like ive done more

well if there will be sides showing , wont you finish them with paint or gel coat? if keeping them with wood showing I would just use polyurathane over the glass if that is what you are wanting to do.

Sure, but the question still remains, will this unwaxed resin ever lose its tack?

Yes, depending on the exact resin it could be from a day or so, to a couple of weeks. The warmer and dryer it is, the faster it will become tack free, cool and humid, longer. This assumes the catalyst level was at the % recommended. There are some resins that take longer, but boat builders rarely, if ever use waxed resin.
