fotos dont do it justice - almost a shame to put a deck on! But thats almost ready to happen - just need to level out a couple of the little riblets and put a cap over them. Also planning the underfloor esky that has to be before the deck goes down. This means i can take a pause and not stress about glassing timeframes, so were going to the shack this weekend (long weekend) and im doin nothin except the bbq!!

Haha, you must be having too much fun fiberglassing. How many layers on transom did you end up with? Enjoy the bbqing

your glassing looks tons better than mine!, what kind of roller are you using to apply the resin? also I just have a little input, have you thought of adding the small drain holes? I first seen them on another build and think they are a fantastic idea. I suppose just a little added security that if some how any water gets in, it can get out.. just my two cents :)

pete theres 6 layers on transom now, tons of tabbing tho.

carpenter thanks on the glassing, but its really just a matter of wetting everything out first and being patient as u roll it. i mostly use a small paint roller to apply, or just pour the resin on and spread it with the all thread roller. plenty of u-tubes, look up fiberglass laminating, thats where i learnt.

the drain holes are called limber holes, ill probably still add them to all the cavities, i did debate that a bit earlier in the build - but ill have to plug them when i pour in the foam.

Yesterday i glassed in the cabin area with the hatch closed, even with the mask on that was nasty. i pushed on as a headache started, but had to down tools and sit it out after a few hours, headache was bad and lasted an hour or so - today i opened the hatch while i worked in there and all was good, until the sun shone thru the hole and i had to put a tarp over to protect the resin.

Only 3 pieces of timber left to go in before the decks go down front and back! Thats 115 individually handcrafted pieces of australian timber fettled, resin coated, fiberglassed and fabricated - what a massive job, and this is only a little boat!! (that number includes the seat bases)

Not that you can tell, but there's another full days work in that! all the roving dags gone, and tabbing done up the front.

Question - should I csm the outdrive keyhole (big hole in transom) OR pb and sand smooth?

Also ive seen fuel tank cavities flowcoated - any reason for this? as in can i avoid it? I have 4kg of flowcoat, and no idea how far it will spread, but would like to see the insides of the seats done as well as the decks - sound reasonable or should i expect to buy more?

Gsxrdan your work looks top notch to me! I got a very similar build going on with a 1994 210 Eclipse, so your thread is very helpfull to me.
Id be more than happy if my transom and stringers turn out as nice as yours.

An example of the jigsaw i had to work out with the wood rotted away - this 1 little section took a whole day to nut out, studying the imprints in the glass and messing around with templates

Heres the fuel tank sitting in its hole. The chunks of wood clamped to the sides are what i want to install along both sides of the stringers to screw the deck to, thinking just a resin soak and pb them on, that way no holes into the sealed structure - is this a good idea? strong enough? too much? input please.

Also repost question re how best to treat the i/o hole in the transom - csm, pb ,other??

cheers all :watermelon:

So i just went ahead and stuck a layer of csm around the hole, saw no reason not to...

All cavities now have a limber hole, all resin sealed and good to go. All timber is completely encapsulated in fiberglass.

Will make a start on shaping the deck tomorro - stuff is gettin real now!! Have decided not to bother with underfloor cooler, so we can just get on and get her wet! :witless:
