just came up with a plan to use the engine hoist to separate this prop from its host... used the same method to decapitate an evinrude 115hp last year (remove its power head) with frozen and broken stainless studs resisting every removal effort... If it works i'll show you how, if it doesn't, well it'll be my dirty little secret :tongue-new:

And thanks to helpful iboaters, have learned that the IO is a DP-C, and requires no bracket on the inside (whew, 1 less part to find)

I wish I had more imput on this phase but sadly I have never messed with Volvo or omc as much as mercruisers

Could you block the prop up on some lumber and use a mallet to beat the shaft out of the hub? Than the outdrive will only fall an inch or so if not elevated too high

Woohoo, glass supplies finally arrived - and so did the wild weather :blue: - we've just started spring here in aus, but the weather is confused and thinks its mid winter, brrr! And me with no heated garage (oh thats right, i dont even have a garage :facepalm:)

What is the best way to decant measured doses of resin from a 25 kg steel drum? Use a cup as a ladle?

Tip the drum down on a cart or stand and use a spigot to fill the containers for mixing. Be careful, don't walk away or look the other way, answer the phone, pet the dog, look at the boat, get a beer, daydream or anything else, it's very common to get distracted and forget you're filling a bucket, then come back in 15 minutes to find you dumped 20 gallons of resin on the floor.

Also, you should mix the drum prior to using, then periodically during the project. If you don't mix it every now and then it can separate and not work correctly.

3 months, but in some cases a bit longer. That's the official shelf life.

Lol here in aus they sell resin by the kilo, so i have 2 x 25 kilo pails, the big drums (44 gal?) run at $1000, these were $180 per pail.

This will be the first of many😆 good luck and keep us informed. Haha, my crazy butt wants a v8 and something like a grady white fishing rig and only way i could afford multiple boats is by buying diamonds in the rough. Wife goes, whatre you doing with the donzi, ah keeping it honey what else? Haha, yep a go fast, family, and fisher. So yeah start breakin your lady in too. Than when this ones done you can jump into another build and she wont go nuts when she comes home to another boat in driveway.

Kidding aside, i think the rebuilding is going to be enjoyable and it looks easy enough. Pretty wise imo to put work into something and avoid making payments.

I gota reply about my wife before i post the first glass work brag shot;

She is awesome, and understands my problem... She calls me a boat *****, but she lets me buy boats! Ive had 14 so far since getting my licence 5 years ago: worked on them all, fished from them all, rebuilt outboards, spent all my spare time working on them; had up to 3 boats in the yard at 1 time, and she understands that i just need to do this; she even got her boat license so i could have a ski too! I knew it was love on a whole nother level when we swapped my dirtbike for a near new car, and instead of keeping it for herself as an upgrade, she encouraged me to trade it for the fishing boat we have now! She is awesome! :couple_inlove:

Anyhow, First bits coated and pb'd -

So have decided to work my way up to glassing in the actual boat. It turned out 2 b a real silver lining that i had to wait for the resin, cause i had time to build the seat bases first, this means i get to learn some basics before i get to anything critical.

So after a wipedown with acetone, i mixed up my first resin batch and coated one of the jump seats; then realised "damn, that bare wood drinks like a sailor (or my wifes sister... whole nother looong story)" so i mixed a second batch an coated the other seat; Then mixed up some pb (takes more filler than i thought to make it thick enough) and used a ziplock bag to pipe it into the seams... Yup, needed a second batch of that too, and if it wasnt getting too late the third mix would have finished both of the seats, so that will b first job when i can get to it tomoz. Then will start cutting into the giant roll of csm (36 kg) and lay some real glass :watermelon:
