So... bloody Micky "Murphy" Ryan, had to mention exhaust manifolds, didnt ya? Everything goes smoothly till Micky pipes up about having no 30 kg apiece cast iron lumps hangin off the side of the block; so i bolted em on for a dry fit, u kno, keep the hounds at bay and all - but they don't fit right do they? NO!

Think we have a solution tho, i cut the elbows off the 'y' pipe so we can slip in a 6 inch sleeve and raise the elbow level with the manifold riser. Meant pulling the engine backwards with the crane to access the y pipe bolts, but done now, and waiting for the big coin 4" silicone pipe to arrive.

Anything else Micky???

Interesting. Where do the exhaust shutters go on that? In my mercruiser the elbows are an individual piece connected by rubber sleeves on either end. The shutters are at the top of the wye pipes. Just curious.

Its just occurred to me that the doghouse might not fit over those risers either... that would suck, as the motor seat lines up with the back pad and the jumpseats to form a sun-deck.

The po had bought the manifolds and risers, and i just assumed they were right for the application, being stamped volvo penta and all...

Ok, heres the solution (i hope)

U can see the crusty corroded elbow end, so i was happy to eliminate that and replace with the silicone:

I sacrificed my motorbike muffler for 2 of those spacers, thier only purpose is to give the clamps something to squeeze against;

and heres the end result - i still need to double clamp all the joints, but his should do for a water test

there appears to be some fly crap on that motor mount ... shakes head in disgust and walks away ...:) you sooo close gl with test run man :)
did dog house fit? they do look really tall I mean they bring the loop up over the rub rail it appears but hey if it fits it gives ya that much more safety against backwashing the exaust right?

Is that blue hose exhaust rated? Will it burn out while in use. Those manifolds will pump a ton of water under the hood in the event of a failure. They have cast iron alternatives to those, i had to swap some steel ones the PO of my hoseboat installed that rusted through.

I baited that motor mount with fly crap just to see if u were watching micky...

Pro shade, i hope they hold up!! They're heat rated to 350f, and 220psi. The dificulty here is the riser outlet is 4", and the y pipe is 3.5", and then theres the 90deg bend

houston, we have an imminent splash-down... :eyebrows:

gear shift is nice 'n slick, props spin with no noises, throttle is crisp, heat seems even on both manifolds, and its much quieter than i imagined (esp out of the water), it starts instantly and doesn't stumble or hesitate at all...

watch this space... :tongue-new:

...no its not wet yet. well its getting rained on pretty hard, but u kno what i mean

lots of little finish jobs have been done tho, important things like finding and fitting a shift cable, and not so important things like fitting another set of speakers and tidying the tons of wiring loom. also hooked up the secondary tilt switch, and back to more importantly, had a glass of bubbly with the wife!

and since she was there to help, i thought jody could take a pic of me struggling to to a job on my own - yup thats a speaker box im holding with my foot, while on the other side of the cabin wall using 2 different size drill bits, and then the impact driver, to secure the box with stainless screws...

and while rainwater dripped thru the yet to b installed cleat holes, i remembered to take a pic of my front seat water channel... at the time i was running out of resin and didnt want to pb the seat base to the hull - then realised no i REALLY didnt want to pb it, cause by 'moulding' the csm tabbing a little, we achieve a smooth water runoff for any drips thru the hatch, or wet bums etc...

of course i still had to buy another 25kg bucket of resin anyway...

big storm due tonight/tomorrow, so hope i can dunk her the next day, getting really impatient and excited now :eek:range: :strawberry:
