So this was tough work, took all day to glass the deck, and it was stressfull doing it all wet on wet layers, but there they are - 2 layers of tabbing (10cm and 20cm) 2 full layers of csm, and a full layers of roving. There are a couple of little lumps to grind down tomorrow, and cleanup a multitude of roving spikes, then start the installation process (seats, carpet, maybe a motor to make the lump lump noises)

if I could make a suggestion I would put a larger acess hole to the gas hoses, I used a 8x10 cover I believe it was , just to give me more room .
other then that it looks great!

Time to molest the motor... glad i ripped into it, most of the impeller was trapped between the block and the heads - water flow would have been impaired at the least. Bores are good, no scoring - would like to do a measure/hone but we just want to go wakeboarding!!! so ill put new gaskets in and give er a compression test - use it for a season if its all good and rebuild next winter. There was a lot of carbon(?) buildup inside the water galleries - blew most of it out with the compressor, but what causes it? (hard black chunks, about 100gm all up came out) Also pulled the holley 650 apart, the secondaries were frozen shut, but otherwise in good cond, will stick a rebuild kit thru it anyway.

Just catching up on this one. Amazing work. When the bombs come, I'm hiding under your boat. Super solid.

looks like photobucket is down
the black carbon looking chunks in water galleys I think is ferris oxide , just one of the many ways irons rusts due to elements in the water if I recall some is black some is red some is white :)

Soooo, pretty happy all round here, have gaskets in hand, new head bolts, spark plugs and leads, and test hoisted the block to make sure it will fit over the transom

and the carpet is down so i can now do the rest of the interior install

Anyone see any objection in reassembling the motor in the boat?? Much easier to manhandle without the heads etc, and it gives me more lift room...

Oh and during removal of the engine mounts to replace with new i thought - why replace these? remove the nuts, clean the threads, and stop spending folding where i dont need too... so bugger it, a good soak with inox and get on with the job!!

And the last couple of days I got sidetracked with a new toy boat to prep for taking to the shack. Got it last week at a yard sale at a stoopid cheap price - its a cool little unit made by suzuki that was a predecessor to jetskis, have done a quick tidy up and engine fresheration, but will do a proper resto in due course (wont take me long) Rekon its also gonna be a great sled for inshore squid and whiting fishing!! :fish2:

Looks fantastic! What are you gonna cover the cuddy's "walls" with?

Thanks :joyous: and great question - im stuck in a loop on that - originally there was lightweight (and ugly) felt type material glued to the walls and roof, the glue is still there... id like to flowcoat it all, but that will be expensive, and the glue would all have to come off; painting it would be cheaper, but the glue would still have to come off; Ive tried yelling "get off!" at the glue, but it wont listen; carpet would be heavy and awkward (and expensive); so that kinda leaves material again - but what type and what colour;

We will also make some bolster cushions, or padded panels, to lean back against; and recover those awful blue fabric seats, probably in a similar cream colour as the 'outside' seats

But theres another thing... mick ryan dont read the next sentence; we plan on using this boat for this season, and see if we really love it. If we do then next winter we're probably gonna chop the roof off the cuddy and convert it to a bowrider...

So the moral of the story is ive put off thinking about covering the cuddys walls till now!
